A new poll released just in time for Charles Darwin's 200th birthday found only 39 percent of Americans say they "believe in the theory of evolution" and just 24 percent of those who attend church weekly believe in the explanation for the origin of life.

The Gallup survey, released Wednesday, found a quarter of those polled do not believe in evolution, and 36 percent say they don't have an opinion either way.

not a FOX poll, but a Gallup poll....in other words, a test balloon to find out if more Christian beating is necessary.

Evolution and Christianity are completely compatible.

“Than 4 in 10 Believe in Evolution”

Sadly however those 4 are teachers not teaching our children.

Evangelical atheists using evolution as a tool to mock Christianity is a different matter.

Evolution is a bit like Esperanto -- most people can go through life quite nicely without ever giving any thought to the topic. The people whom I have met who are really eager to discuss evolution have tended to be people on a mission to hate Christianity.

So, yeah, they can be compatible. But usually that's not the point.

IMHO, evolution leaves so much unanswered and requires so much more of a leap of faith to believe in. I could never understand the need to explain away so much.

Much less faith is needed to believe in intellegent design. I love the explanation of taking a bag of music notes, shaking them up, throwing them into the air and expecting them to form a song when they land, and a bunch of building materials to make a perfect building w/o an architect. We know that everything man creates requires a designer, how much more complex is say, a human eye? No designer for that?

I do however believe when matter was called into existence, it very well could have caused a big bang, and I totally believe that natural selection has played a huge part in why owl’s have awesome night vision and giraffes have really long necks and lots of other adaptations. None of this is evolution tho.

If we evolved from apes, why are there still apes. If we evolved from lizards or fish, same question. Why the need for 1300 varieties of orchid? Wouldn’t the best orchid be the only kind? If there was never matter, wouldn’t there still never be matter? How did the first matter get here?

No, the only thing evolutionists need to be able to do is deny the existence of God because man, in their minds, has become like God, as there is no other superior being if we evolved as the higest form of life.

Evolution and Christianity are completely compatible.

So what do you make Jesus speaking about Adam and Eve as though they were real people? Just trying to figure out how you reconcile the bible with a belief in evolution (or whether you even believe the bible to be the inerrant word of God).

I would like to know what the question actually was.

If I say do you believe in evolution, I would like to know what the person answering this thinks it means.

If the question means climbing out of primordial soup thats one thing or does the person think it is a process that God placed into action, or some combination. Or do they think it means survival of the fittest or mutation or adaptation.

What is it the person being asked thinks "do you believe in evolution" means?

Believing in evolution does not preclude believing in intelligent design.

Same old story often repeated, present theory as fact ,say it often enough and punish relentlessly any one who begs to differ. Be brought to us presently in the form of global warming. More liberal takeover bullshit!

No one is using evolution to mock Christianity. Many (not all) Christians (a group to which I proudly belong) are too defensive to examine the evidence.

Spelling errors are troll magnets for someone who can’t argue with what you said so they go after your spelling instead.
