Pelosi frustrated by Senate [Spector, Snowe & Collins threaten to pull out. Kill Porkulus]
Politico ^ | 02/11/2009 | By GLENN THRUSH

Nancy Pelosi had heard enough, thank you very much, after two enraged House Democrats rose at Tuesday’s caucus meeting to bitterly denounce the Senate’s take-it-or-leave-it offer on the stimulus.

It wasn’t because Pelosi wasn’t ticked off herself — quite the opposite.

“At a certain point, after a couple of members had expressed themselves, she asked that future speakers not address that issue because it was reminding her how angry she was,” said Rep. Anthony D. Weiner (D-N.Y.), who was in the room.

When Pelosi emerged from behind closed doors a few minutes later to address the press, she wore the broadest possible smile on her face. But her words expressed the grimmest possible resolve, as she girded for a conference committee battle on the stimulus destined to yield, at best, partial victory.

“Usually you go to conference and split the difference between the two houses — that may not be the case here,” Pelosi said. “At these conferences, my experience has been that the White House has a seat at the table — that they weigh in.”

Both Obama and Pelosi are hoping to restore significant stimulus spending eliminated by the Senate, especially $21 billion in school construction and technology grants, $10.3 billion in COBRA insurance and $8.6 billion in new Medicaid coverage for the unemployed.

The Senate passed its $830 billion stimulus bill Tuesday — but it wouldn’t have passed at all without the support of three moderate Republicans and a conservative Democrat who helped the Democratic majority obtain the 60 votes necessary to stop a filibuster.

Majority Leader Harry Reid’s solution has created its own set of problems for the speaker. Sens. Susan Collins (R-Maine), Olympia Snowe (R-Maine), Arlen Specter (R-Pa.) and Ben Nelson (D-Neb.) all have publicly insisted that the measure emerge more or less unchanged...

Well cheap political hacks speaking as they do for fools speak for no one who matters.

I’m talking about Barry’s polling numbers which are dropping now behind the fall of the pork bill.

“Specter email returns a “I will not answer this” message unless you are from Pennsylvania.”

This is what I did: Look up “zip codes for Philadelphia” (or some city in PA) then use that zip code and city for the email. Mine went through.

Well you have to give Barry some credit. He’s going out to spew more propaganda to try to counter the smell of the pork bill.

This even though it appears to be in the final stages of passage. So that’s telling. He’s still trying to sell what has been shoved down American’s throats.

What a crock. Those jerks are solidly in the tank for the porkulus bill. They're just running their mouths publicly to try to stop their impending defeat in their next bid for office.
Nah. The only way we will be able to defeat this monstrosity is if we, each and every citizen of the United States, refuses to partake in the wealth redistribution programs. I can tell you right now, if you are a person or a company that has taken one cent from any of these kinds of bills my family and I will in no way ever do business with you again.
The effort to stop this bill and any subsequent bills like it need to be a grass roots effort.

Honestly people... How in the world can these pipe dreams of the liberals be paid for? If all they are going to do is print money with nothing of value to back up those bills then please, send every American a frigging printing press, the paper and ink and let us print up our own counterfeit crap. Why let obomba and his little band of gangsters corner the market?

This "stimulus bill" will only hurt you if you let it.

MHO

“What happened to Daschle could happen to them. Madame Pelosi included.”

Why do you think there is 4 billion in the bill for ACORN? To ensure that never happens again.

Construction of schools for which there are no students, and COBRA insurance and Medicaid benefits. Where's the stimulus????

-- The complete Senate rules are hard to find... --

Senate Rules (http://rules.senate.gov/senaterules/)
Riddick's Senate Procedure (http://www.gpoaccess.gov/riddick/index.html)

Most of the rules have a catch-all provision, "rule applies unless waived," which makes prediction of action tricky. Also, the Senate will combine rules-based actions into shortcut combinations, e.g., combining what is usually a cloture vote and a final vote into a single final vote w/60 vote margin; or a similar combination but with a point of order vote and a final vote.

Anyway, final passage of the conference report is subjected to an agreement as to ending debate to vote on the conference report, and at that point a 60 vote hurdle is erected.

Perhaps I am getting too cynical in my older age, but I read the article like it was all one big act among thieves to fool the sheeple. We need to keep the pressure on for sure, because it is working enough to have them deeply concerned.

Might I suggest that some Freepers in Florida target some big retirement communities with flyers explaining the ‘let seniors die’ part of the homicidal democrat ‘health plan’ in the porkulus? The best way to do it would be to list the actual parts of the bill and perhaps one of the articles that explain it all. So many seniors get all of their news from the MSM and probably have no idea what the democrats have planned for them.

She is the most annoying of the pundits...the other three said that Tim Geithner was totally unprepared yesterday. One said that it's like he's showing up for the SATs without his No. 2 pencil...but she chimed in saying—oh, he's ready with a ballpoint pen!

Results of Calling so far today...

Collins- Call goes right to voice mail. Is her staff not even answering calls???

Voice mail box is full. Emails come back undeliverable. Is this democracy?

People in Maine..... please find a better Senator to run next time. I am from Massachusetts and I will help get someone else elected. Please.

Snowe- Line busy. Will call later. Emails undeliverable.

Spector- Line busy. Will call later.

They need to say NO when the bill comes back from the house. At the very minimum, they have to take ACORN out of this Bill!! No question. It is disgusting that Republicans can’t even bring the spotlight on this. Is there really two parties in DC? I wonder.

I emailed Mr. Steele too because as of last week he has not spoken with these three “winner”. I think this matter warrants a sit down. Please email RNC to be more proactive with outreach to Snowe, Spector, and Collins.

Have they really read the entire Bill? NO!! This is a disgrace. It is irresponsible beyond words.

Thank you Jim for your efforts in DC the other day.

It would be wise for other elected office holders to remember they are also elected to serve the people.

Yes, but in their mind, "to serve the people" is the name of a cookbook.

Betsy McCaughey, former Lt. Gov of NY, was just on with Megan & Bill saying that the health plan was in Puff's book (p. 196) where he advises a future president to slip the legislation into a spending bill where nobody will discuss it. Well, as Bill said—this is going from a grass fire to a forest fire!

My bet is that if Peloser doesn't get her way on this bill, she will be so mad that she will make the next bill a quadrillion dollars.

Say hello to our newly formed and elected “Prime Minister”!

I hope King Obammy can come to some agreement with her highness. After all, he gave her the responsibility of planning the Porkulus disaster because he had no clue how to even start.

Now, he has no clue how to decide what to do. Leave it up to his Leftist “Prime Minister” to sort it all out.

(We are so screwed.)
