Specter crushed on all sides by stimulus vote
The Pittsburgh Tribune-Review PAPolitics ^ | February 10, 2009 | Salena Zito

Arlen Specter mistakenly thought that his moderate compromise on the stimulus bill would be more warmly received.

He was wrong.

And he has a whole lot of high-level statements and primary threats as a result of the vote that backs his mistake.

The chair of the Pennsylvania State Republican Party Rob Gleason expressed

I will find out who is running against all three of these Senators and donate to their competitor.

Specter voted against the nomination of distinguished Judge Robert Bork and by so doing gave our nation an activist judiciary. Then as Chair of the Senate Judiciary Committee he failed to secure nominations for scores of conservative judges. Now he votes to put this boondoggle stimulus package over the top.

Either he believes primary votes are stupid or the voters of PA are imbecile or both. This will be tested in 2010.

LOL! By call #5 you were a little testy. ;-) Good job. He is a rat scum. He was a defense attorney for that scum who murdered the girl and was also involved in the warren commission. I hop Pat Toomey runs against him or even Rick Santorum.

I’d love to see Santorum run again. But the article says Pat Toomey is going to run against him. I voted for Toomey the last time he challenged Arlen. I’d rather have Santorum though.

"We'll just end up with another Dem, like we did when we lost Santorum for Casey Jr."

There are some messages that must be sent. And those cheap dates from Maine need a message too.

I have always thought Arlen Spector was on someone’s string.

Reasons:

1. 1965-Warren Commission—magic bullet theory—made him famous and probably obscured the truth about what happened.

2. 1999-Clinton’s trial in Senate—Scottish law—WTF?

3. 2009-Votes for biggest transfer of wealth in US history to government from the people, ensures Democrat control of government for decades, gives us stealth National Healthcare, and kills GOP chance at regaining power—ever.

Spector has always been wishy washy, a man who could not always be counted upon. I always felt he was vulnerable to blackmail of some sort. Why Pres. Bush supported him over Toomey, I cannot say, but who knows if Poppa Bush, from his CIA days, had a reason?

Something never squares about Spector.

He proved it again today.

I really hate to say this, but this is nothing like the Clinton years.

You're right.

Specter had more support and pressure from his peers to do the right thing during the Clinton years, yet he still refused.

I’m convinced a solid conservative running a good campaign, can still win statewide in Pennsylvania. True, Santorum lost big in 2006 but (1) it was a godawful year for Republicans (2) he faced the toughest possible Rat opponent: a Casey (3) oddly, he had a flailing campaign without a coherent narrative (very odd because Santorum, besides a good conservative, had always been in touch, a salt-of-the-earth guy).

Philly is like Chicago-machine lite. Until the corruption in Philly is cleaned up (probably not in our lifetimes), we might as well forget voting in another Santorum. I still can’t get over that a dolt like Casey replaced a good man like Santorum!

The really sad thing was that W campaigned for Sphincter against Toomey in 2004. Sphincter won the primary 51% to 49%. Really big mistake on W’s part because shortly after the general election, which Sphincter narrowly won, he resumed his opposition to W’s programs and policies and started voting with the DemoCrooks.

Last I saw Toomey was exploring running for governor and had dropped Senate talk, but I’m sure he could still change his mind. Toomey’s a solid conservative, too.

We keep hearing that from Pennsylvania but they keep sending him back. PA voters even returned the excrable Murtha to office.

I'm surrounded by elitist colleges here in Eastern PA who employ liberals. We also have all the union people who think they're democrats. On top of that are the people looking for handouts.
