Text of Letter Delivered to Senators Specter, Collins and Snowe by Freepers Today(Porkulus)
Monday, February 9, 2009 | Kristinn

Posted on 02/09/2009 9:05:57 AM PST by kristinn

Jim Robinson delivered the following letter to the offices of Senators Arlen Specter, Susan Collins and Olympia Snowe this morning.

The Honorable Arlen Specter
711 Hart Senate Office Building
Washington, D.C. 20510

Sen. Specter,

On behalf of the several hundred thousand members of FreeRepublic.com, I urge you to vote against cloture and passage of the so-called stimulus bill, or as we call it, the Porkulus Bill.

We appreciate your good faith efforts on improving the bill. However, statements by your Democratic colleagues show that they have no intention of abiding by the compromises negotiated with you. In short, the Democrats are playing you and the American people for suckers.

This bill needs to be stopped. If passed, it will pile so much debt on our citizens, with more indebtedness to come with TARP and the omnibus bill, that they will become slaves to that debt and slaves to government.

As you reflect on your votes today and tomorrow, I ask you to consider what our Founding Fathers would do in this situation. Would they sacrifice and endure short term pain for the good of the Nation, or would they vote to enslave future generations with unsustainable debt for short term gain?

May God save America from its government,

James C. Robinson

Criticism is almost never welcome. But here it comes anyway.

When one writes something, one needs to be aware of who is going to read it. There are good jokes for a men’s locker room that just does not work for a girl scout troop.

This letter gladdens the hearts of conservatives, but unfortuneately, the audience was 3 “rino” senators.

The words “porkulus”, “suckers” and “slaves” just are not going to go over well with these three.

Let me say something about “rinos” that most conservatives fail to appreciate. A rino politician is concerned with the best interests of the country. Most rinos like Schwartenegger can get better jobs that are outside of politics. Rinos are relatively immune from political pressure. If they wanted conservative votes, they would be conservatives not rinos. If they wanted liberal votes, they would be democrats, not republicans.

Voinovich and Martinez are no on this bill, not because of political pressure (they are both retiring) but because they think a no vote is the right thing to do. Ditto with Collins, Snowe and Spector yes votes.

The way to get to a rino is by calmly reasoning. I think Voinovich was on board with the deal but reasoned it out and flipped.

The way to go here is to say. “you have the deciding swing votes. you can pretty much write the bill as you wish and the democrats will have to go along as will the republicans. There is a lot of bad stuff in this bill that needs to go. Write the bill as you think for the good of the country”

If the three rinos do this, the bill that comes out will be not to the conservatives liking but probably something they can live with, which is unlike the current porkulus. And it will also probably be frustrating to the dems too but be something they can live with.

I certainly believe that in order for something to change, we are going to have to band together in huge numbers and march on Washington.

The “honorable” members of Congress have long since forgotten who they work for. They treat their offices like it some cherished right and that we should be happy that they represent us.

The career politicians have now completely forgot the messages from the founders of our great country. It is our duty to remind them constantly.

Pick up your phone. Email incessantly. Make noise. Help them remember who the boss is.

Agreed 1000%. and at the rate our country is being sold into socialism, we’ll have plenty of spare time to do that March, maybe even Fifteen or Twenty.

Well, Specter doesn’t have all his marbles and those two females from Maine are Republicans in name only. Only a miracle will stop the spawn of crooked Cook County and Chicago politics from converting the United States from a Democratic Republic into a Socialist state.

FWIW, I think you can rest easy.

Like elk, I was there today. Although we weren’t able to roust out the three senators, we were very well received by the staff we spoke with. I would have to say that elk stole all our hearts with her presentation at Spector’s. But no less should we expect of a dedicated home-schooling mom. Those are 5 VERY lucky kids, though they may not fully appreciate it for years.

While others were speaking I watched the secretaries field phone calls — it was a solid stream. I didn’t see them all, but only one of those I DID see was actually listening — AND read back the message she was to deliver to her Senator to make sure she had it right. Most were just trying to stay awake. Collins’ aide admitted the calls were running some 7 to 1 against the bill.

Jim made a spectacular presentation — obviously from the heart and right on point — we can all be proud of him — actually showing up in their offices will most certainly count for a lot. (BTW, the entire buildings were flooded with Acorn reps — wearing their cute little buttons — but, then, who wouldn’t for the 4.1 or so BILLION $$ written into the bill for them alone!)

Melanie and her MAF cohorts did an excellent job as well — a real asset to the group. Others of us, FReepers and lurkers alike pitched in with their own concerns and suggestions — way too many to list them all here.

I, for one, will not hesitate to do this again on a such a critical measure.

PS. Sorry to say, Kristinn wasn’t there — he is sorely missed in the DC area. Maybe he should run for the Senate!

They despise Free Republic, folks. It won’t make any difference in the end with these three.

Well that's a given to most of us.

And of course they will ignore it.

Does Snarlin’ Arlen intend to run again?
If so, is it to early to launch a movement to defeat him?
