CAMBRIDGE, Massachusetts (CNN) -- Former presidential candidate Ron Paul criticized President Obama's economic recovery proposal but said Saturday that blame for the financial crisis is deep-seated and includes Republicans who failed to hold the line on spending during the Bush administration.
He also offered a harsh critique of the three Republican senators who have said they will vote for the economic recovery proposal. A vote is scheduled for early next week.
Paul, a Republican representative from Texas who sought the GOP nomination for president, said that although some people call Obama's plan to jumpstart the economy a "stimulus package," he thinks it is a "pure spending package."

Paul is correct, but no one other than Losertarians care what he thinks or says.
This reaffirms my decision to leave the GOP after 30 years. This and that disaster of a president, Jorge Bush.
Love or hate Ron Paul, he would have taken a 180-degree different approach than Obama to our economic crisis. And that would have been better for our nation.
But he would have been demonized by the Democrats and the media 100 times worse than the GOP ever has.
Say what you will about him, he’s right on the issues more often than the majority of Congress.
Ron Paul ping!
Exactly. They had to interview the one loose screw in the GOP for their money quote.
How ridiculous is he? I live in Hollywood and I can still find Ron Paul car stickers here. If he is “acceptable’ to the whackjob libs living here, that pretty much says what he stands for.
But to be fair, he made a good honest point that indeed, 4 RINOS caved but we shall see next week.
Fear makes the media hate. If Palin is as incapable as they say she is they wouldn’t have such adamant hatred for her. If Ron Paul was taken more seriously, he would be given the same treatment.
For example, I think Barney Frank is a buffoon. I am glad to see him as the face of the Democrats. Now if only people who vote would actually take time to watch C-Span...
lol Ya think?
.It's too bad he comes across as such a whack job. With the exception of National Defense, he's pretty much right about everything else.
Who knew that there were over 1.1 million hardcore libertarians voting in the republican primary to give Paul their votes? Or that his district is apparently so overwhelming libertarian?
March 4, 2008
Ron Paul: 37,220 votes (70.29%)
Chris Peden: 15,813 votes (29.70%)
You're dead wrong. I for one am a strict Constitutionist the way that Dr./Rep. Paul is, & he is absolutely RIGHT (again!). No need to insult Libertarians...they are your your friend more than they are your enemy.
He would have been demonized by the Establishment GOP as well.
Paul is correct & right now we need all the allies we can get.
“If Ron Paul was taken more seriously, he would be given the same treatment.”
Paul was marginalized intentionally by the media, because he is an absolutely unacceptable major candidate for them. IIRC, he had excellent fundraising, and if his press coverage had been positive and time given in proportion to this, he would have impacted the republican primary a great deal. There are a lot of folks who resonate with at least some of his views (especially the simple ones, like less government), and he is saying things that no ‘major candidate’ ever says.
The media selected the 3 major candidates (except maybe hillary, who was going to be a power regardless), if readers hadn’t noticed. McCain as GOP nominee? I remain baffled by this, unless one accounts for the media. He was the ideal candidate for liberals, because many in his own party dislike him intensely. Once he picked palin as VP, however, the gloves came off.
At present, the United States has just had a completely managed election.
No, I’d say he’s right on national defense for the most part. He would use or military for DEFENSE, & to protect our homeland from attack rather than have thousands of military personnel scattered all across the globe fighting one battle after another. Let Eirope & Japan take care of their own defense! End the unconstitutional foreign aid that goes to both friendly & semi-unfriendly nations alike!
Dr. Paul was also marginalized, belittled, berated and bashed by some seriously disturbed and deranged FReepers who apparently couldn’t bear the thought of having an actual Constitutional Conservative anywhere NEAR the White House.
It is interesting how the MSM wanted Obama to win the ‘rat nomination, wanted McCain to win the GOP, but wanted Obama to beat him in the general. They were 3 for 3. Perhaps they were just lucky this time, they certainly don’t get their way every election cycle; but they certainly have good reason to feel pretty powerful about now.
The only thing L Ron Paul would have done different than Obozo is surrender us earlier to the enemy.
L Ron’s views are summed up by the bumper stickers on a car parked on my block. An L Ron Paul sticker, a 9/11 was
an inside job, and a peace sticker.
L Ron Paul, best friend of the Far Left.
