GOP Senators Risk Political Backlash Over Support of Stimulus Bill Sens. Susan Collins and Olympia Snowe of Maine, and Pennsylvania's Arlen Specter have risked the wrath of their fellow Republicans and constituents to help push the controversial economic spending plan over the finish line

FOXNews.com Saturday, February 07, 2009

Sen. Susan Collins of Maine, Sen. Arlen Specter of Pennsylvania and Sen. Olympia Snow, also of Maine, have broken with other Republicans to support the Democrats' plan for spending and tax cuts to stimulate the economy. (AP)

Until Friday, President Obama's plea for bipartisanship support of his costly plan for stimulating the economy mostly had fallen on deaf GOP ears, but that changed when three Republican moderates pledged their support.

In doing so, Sens. Susan Collins and Olympia Snowe of Maine, and Pennsylvania's Sen. Arlen Specter risked drawing the wrath of their fellow Republicans and of some constituents

The trio's support is expected to give Democrats the 60 votes needed in the Senate to advance to a final vote on the $827 billion stimulus bill next week -- and ultimately push the controversial mix of massive spending and tax cuts over the finish line.

Tarred and feathered is more like it. They do not know the wrath they are about to incur.

Arlen Specter is DONE.

He won his last primary by less than 1% against a real conservative of Pat Toomey. And only because the President Bush came to PA and campaigned for him.

He is DONE.

With Republicans like these, who needs Democrats?

Collins said she could still change her mind. Don’t think it will happen but pressure should be exerted.

This political treason actually gives these three senators great power in the Senate. They are the “swing” vote now. They are the ones the Democrats and the other Republicans have to deal with. That is why Republicans can never keep a united front. Those three Senators are now and will be for the foreseeable future, the center of attention in Washington. They will grow to love it and will use it to extract mega pork from their colleagues and mega perks. For the time being they will be Washington royalty.

I received another request for money today from the RNC. I wrote back and said no - you can thank Specter and Collins. Not that they’ll miss my paltry donations, but if enough people do this, maybe it will get some attention. I can’t be the only small donor who is furious with Congress.

Collins and Snowe will be fine. Specter will be ousted.

The vast majority of the GOP did great on this issue. Amazing that they got 100% cooperation in the House.

If you want to withhold money go ahead, but you might rather consider giving to the GOP contendor for Specter's seat in '10.

Specter is now in position to bring more pork home to Pennsylvania than ever before. He is not necessarily “done.” The rest of the Republicans now have to buy his vote by allowing mega Pennsylvania/Specter pork into other bills in order to buy this vote on must-beat legislation. That goes for the other two Republican Socialists, too.

So you’re going to punish all the House Republicans and 37 of the 41 Republican Senators because of three or four people from New England?

Arlen Specter was DONE decades ago for me when when he successfully opposed Reagan’s nomination of Judge Robert Bork the US Supreme Court.

Instead we got Kennedy who has been the deciding majority (liberal) vote in the flag-burning case, the abortion case, the Homosexual Sodomy case, and the Boumedianne Terror case (all 5/4 decisions) .

This guy needs to horse-whipped out of the Republican Party & the US Senate

He’s NOT done unless the dems don’t want him to win. He will not need “real” votes to win. If the democrates decide to keep him in, Acorn will just register and vote the number of fake voters they need to make up the difference. They never have to lose another election! Who’s gonna stop them?

One thing you have to realize is that we have no representation in New England in the House. All of these senators, minus Specter, are from Maine or New Hampshire (Gregg counts even though he’s not voting).

I posted this on another thread, but actually it's better
suited for this thread.

Politicians who don't have fear the lynch mob at home
will never respect the wishes of their constituencies.

Don't be afraid to threaten your representatives.

I used RNC tactics and called them today.....left message for Michael Steele that he has his first challenge.....get to Collins, Specter ....ask them WHY they would support Bill that gives money to ACORN, an organization that is involved in fraudulent voter registration activities.

I stopped giving money to RNC a while ago since the prior Chairman ..Duncan...didn’t seem to care or have a clue about what was important to ‘everyday’ Americans or how to effectively communicate with ‘everyday’ Americans and, thus, 2 elections were lost.

If the Senate and House want to spend money why aren’t they including drilling for oil to help us become less dependent on foreign oil?..
