WASHINGTON Another Democratic U.S. senator has gone on record as supporting the reinstatement of the so-called "Fairness Doctrine," adding, "I feel like that's gonna happen."
Sen. Debbie Stabenow, D-Mich., told radio host and WND columnist Bill Press yesterday when asked about whether it was time to bring back the so-called "Fairness Doctrine": "I think it's absolutely time to pass a standard. Now, whether it's called the Fairness Standard, whether it's called something else I absolutely think it's time to be bringing accountability to the airwaves. I mean, our new president has talked rightly about accountability and transparency. You know, that we all have to step up and be responsible. And, I think in this case, there needs to be some accountability and standards put in place."
Asked by Press if she could be counted on to push for hearings in the Senate this year "to bring these (radio station) owners in and hold them accountable," she replied: "I have already had some discussions with colleagues and, you know, I feel like that's gonna happen. Yep."
Meanwhile, as WND has previously reported, other Democratic legislators have tried to claim talk about a reintroduction of the so-called "Fairness Doctrine" is merely conspiracy-mongering by right-wing talk radio and its partisan cheerleaders.
But other Democrats in the Senate and House and even a few Republicans have made no secret of their support for such legislation.
"For many, many years, we operated under a Fairness Doctrine in this country," Sen. Jeff Bingaman, D-N.M., told Albuquerque radio station KKOB last year. "I think the country was well-served. I think the public discussion was at a higher level and more intelligent in those days than it has become since."

Sean Hannity was on fire yesterday. It was great to hear.
Public Radio is commercial radio. People vote with their wallet. Air time is paid by sponsors. Sponsors pay for shows that people listen.
If they did not listen, the sponsors would not be paying. That is accountability.
The majority party is revealing their colors. They just don't understand how a democratic republic is supposed to work.
Government needs to get out of the way and let the people, the market, that economy work itself out.
“...But other Democrats in the Senate and House and even a few Republicans have made no secret of their support for such legislation...”
In any Republicans are supporting the unfairness doctrine, they need to be cut off from funding and replaced. Now.
I'm not trying to beat anyone up, just an observation. Just like the article about Palin versus Judd. I see two on here this morning and there have at least two others referencing the same article in the previous couple of days.
Gee, Jeff, my copy of the Constitution must have ommitted the "higher level and more intelligent" wording in the 1st Admendment. But thanks for pointing that out, oh great Bingaman, arbiter elegantiarum supreme. Where would dumb hicks like me be without you and your cohorts...
Sean was telling the audience that his staff was calling her office to invite her on his show.
He broadcast that he was sure that by then her staff had been advised she was the topic of the day. His staff was calling a second time to give her a back-line telephone number to call.
He invited her to share an hour with him on his TV show.
When it became apparent she was not calling, he gave out the Capitol switchboard telephone number, and later a number for her South Michigan office.
If the Senator wants accountability, she was getting it yesterday.
stab-a-cow is one of the most dispicable creatures in the senate...dangerously incompotent
I heard that, too. He should do it more often. I was shouting along with him as I was driving, lol.
Thank your for your post. There is always a pot of fools gold to be found somewhere amidst the verbiage a Democrat porker like Stabanow spews. She really ought to turn her attention to the miserable condition of the state of Michigan, much of which the Democrats and their union allies have caused. But that would be too daunting a task.
BTTT, thanks and did you hear Hannity go off on Stabenow yesterday? Man, he was in rare form.
oh yeah..
Man oh man, it even matches the color of her dress!!! Wow, what a right on description...of her!!!
We should ask Pretend Senator Stabmenow, "you are being sarcastic, right? Obama talks about a lot of things, then does the total opposite. Ask Obi for his long form birth certificate."
There were several threads about it at the time.
All good time was had by all!
Are you Jeff Sessions?
Can we apply the Censorship Doctrination to the Old York Times?
Pray for America, Our Troops and obama’s Guidance
Shockingly, I believe this only applies to radio. Amazing coincidence, huh????
Sorry I missed that, it sure is funny.
Just a constituent who has seen her back down in the face of constituent anger again and again. It’s especially true with the big issues.
When the Senator is spending more time worrying about what I hear on talk radio than what her husband needs to hear from his wife, it is time for her to resign her Senate seat and spend more time at home.
And, eliminating competition for his liberal radio network, through use of her Senate position, will do nothing for his self esteem.
