WASHINGTON (AP) - Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg had surgery Thursday after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, the court said.
Ginsburg, 75, had the surgery at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center in New York. She will remain in the hospital for seven to 10 days, said her surgeon, Dr. Murray Brennan, according to a release issued by the court.
The court announcement said the cancer is apparently in the early stages.

I wish her the best, but even under best circumstances, whe will probably not be well enough to work within 3 months of today...and it will be probably get worse.
Regarding a replacement, how could there be anyone worse?
How about transfering Eric Holder from AG to Supreme Court? After all, he’s ALREADY BEEN THROUGH SENATE CONFIRMATION?! (((SHUDDER)))
Point well taken.
“I agree, but I bet 0 is dancing a gig at the prospect of a nomination in his 1st year.”
Sad that anyone get this kind of affliction, but I’m thanking God it wasn’t Thomas, Scalia, Alito or Roberts. It’d be very difficult to find anyone to the left of Ginsburg, so at best for the left, it’ll be a wash.
That was all without surgery, and without any type of radiation or chemo treatment......How will she ever be able to continue her work on the court?
Pancreatic cancer is awful. I feel bad for her and her family and will offer prayers for them.
Pretty grim.
Maybe Bambi will bail out of the whole POTUS gig and nominate himself......
Really. Unless Kennedy or one of the 4 conservatives resigns it won'y affect the balance of power on the court.
Luciano Pavarotti made it 14 months.
Pancreatitis and Pancreatic Cancer are totally different diseases. Pancreatic Cancer at any stage is a dire diagnosis.
I had a 2.5cm malignant neuroendocrine tumor removed along with 40% of my pancreas and my spleen 13 months ago. I required no chemo and no radiation therapy. If I had not come down with double pneumonia due to the 10 hour surgery I would have been out of the hospital in 3 to 5 days. As it was I was in for 12 including 7 in ICU. I am cancer free but I’m dealing with a recurring pseudocyst. I am actually having a stent removed from my pancreatic duct tomorrow via a procedure called an ERCP.
Prayers for her health. I hope they caught it early.
I have a former colleague (he took emeritus status *very* early so he could move to China to be with his much younger Chinese wife) who got diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, but so early that instead of the usual prognosis measured in months, he was given 2 to 5 years as the most likely prognosis with a slim chance of being cured.
Could even affect it for the better. Maybe Obama can do for the left what Reagan did for the right with the Souter nomination.
My mom lasted less than 3 months after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. I wouldn’t wish this on my worst enemy, or a democrat. Prayers to her and her family.
Michelle Obama
Ugh.
“She hung on as long as she could to make sure GWB didn’t replace her.”
Actually, she had no symptoms. It was discovered during a routine checkup.
I’ve been quietly praying that what often happens to GOP picks happens to a rat pick. Bush the elder had the wool pulled over his eyes by Warren Rudman on the Souter pick and Reagan got sold a bill of goods on Kennedy...even though he’s on the right side about half the time.
