Daschle made $5m in last 2 years
Tom Daschle, under fire for not paying taxes, made nearly $5.3 million in the last two years, records released Friday show.
Daschle, the former Senate Democratic leader who President Obama has tapped to overhaul the nation’s healthcare system, was paid $220,000 to give speeches to outfits that have a vested interest in the result the work he would do once confirmed as Secretary of Health and Human Services.
Among the companies and groups paying thousands of dollars a pop to book Daschle were some that stand to gain or lose the most depending on the results of Obama’s efforts to enact universal health.
For instance, the Health Industry Distributors Association plunked down $14,000 to land the former Senate Democratic Leader in March 2008. The association, which represents medical products distributors, boasts on its website that Daschle met with it after he was nominated to discuss “the impact an Obama administration will have on the industry.”

I guess Obama can’t take much pressure if only a few newspapers and a couple of Senators calls for Daschle to withdraw his name. That should teach us a lesson on putting pressure on Obama. He will obviously cave easily!

IT DOESN’T MATTER! Obama has already appointed Daschle to a second position that does not require Senate confirmation. Daschle has been appointed to head Obama’s Commission on Healthcare Reform.
Ask Obama if this Daschle appointment will stand!

Seriously, I’d be all sympathy for a nominee coming from the private sector who hadn’t been able to keep track of what taxes he owed under the bazillion page Internal Revenue Code. But one of the bozos who was actively engaged in enacting/expanding this garbage for over 25 years? And when he finally got unelected, promptly set about working for lobbying groups that promote more of the same? Nope, not one iota of sympathy/understanding/benefit-of-the-doubt from me.
