Michael Steele, the new chairman of the Republican National Committee wants the GOP to reach out to candidates who support gay marriage and are pro-choice. Steele told Fox's Chris Wallace that it was "important" to reach out to those voters.
WALLACE: You are one of the co-founders of something called the Republican Leadership Council which supports candidates who favor abortion and gay rights.
STEELE: Yes.
(watch video)
WALLACE: Does the GOP needs to do a better job of reaching out to people who hold those views?
STEELE: I think -- I think that's an important opportunity for us, absolutely. Within our party we do have those who have that view as well as outside and my partnership with Christy Todd Whittman was an effort to build a bridge between moderates and conservatives.

They have been here for a long time disguising themselves as Libertarians.
Zooom! Just like I thought.
I still couldn’t get it to work for me. I don’t have the latest version of Adobe flash player. I’m willing to give him a chance based on what I’ve heard and read to this point. He seems to understand and accept the Republica platform of pro-life and pro-heterosexual marriage. He also comes across as quite pro-life personally....not so sure about his views on gay marriage.
The point is ... his job is to raise money and get Republicans elected, not get himself elected as a congressman. He seems to have a talent in the communication department and a forward looking approach on the organizational methods (internet, grass roots, higher dependance on state campaign organizations) needed to get people elected. If he applies those skills to getting Conservatives elected, that’s a plus for the Republican party. If he waters down the more conservative aspects of the Republican party, that’s not helpful. I will wait and see.
Thanks Donna, so many self proclaimed Reaganites don't seem to remember a thing he stood for.
If you want to welcome more people into your party who do not hold to the party planks, you can join the RINOs that are left there. The planks are what the party is supposed to be standing for. Invite someone in who doesn't agree with all the planks, but some of them, then run them for a candidate and... WAH- LAH! You have the RINO party that exists!! Compromise away your party planks to increase your voter base and have a party that doesn't stand for what it claims to stand for.
Doesn't bother me any, if that is what you wish to do with your party. It is no longer my party. I left it when the Republican Party refused to even acknowledge Alan Keyes as a candidate, ~ mock primary and all. Keep your party and continue to compromise your planks and principles until no one can tell the difference between the Democrats and the Republicans.
Are you positively insane? Do you know how bad it would look for the Republican party to force their first black Chairman to resign within days of being elected? It would be a public relations disaster. It would be like making a big neon sign saying, “!!!Minorities Are Not Welcome!!!” The party would never recover. Some here seem intent on having the GOP fail.
Republican Party = Over!
The only reach out I want is tell these people that they are wrong in the eyes of God and to pray that they see the error of their ways.
So what your are saying is that Michael Steele is an Affirmative Action GOP Chairman. He's the GOP's Token Black Man.
Great. WE can't fire him even though he's an incompentent buffoon because he's black.
Great.
Political correctness gone mad.
Like you I am done with the RINO party. Let them see if they can replace the base with moderates and perverts/abortionists.
M’kay. You’ll have to explain why you felt compelled to send me this one. Don’t quite see the connection you’re trying to make. Thanks in advance.
OK, I'm just gonna give up on this thread, since no one seems to actually read what I've written before they send their intentional misrepresentations.
I have this silly idea that we should be trying to convert more people to conservatism. Silly me! We should just stick with the same number of voters we had last time!
That'll consistently give us more lib presidents, and a lib congress and SCOTUS forever.
More abortions, more gay marriage, more watering-down of the WOT...
Some "conservatives" apparently have a suicide wish.
I completely agree. It's not like the GOP would be reaching out to gay voters to we can all agree to be gay.
No. You are here trying to convert conservatives into RINOs.
Reaching out to at the most .02% of the population, most of whom will never vote Republican no matter what, is insanity. If Steele means “reaching out” to anyone who is pro-homosexual marriage, then why the hell is he in the Republican party?
What Republicans should do is focus on conservative values and positions and let the chips fall where they may. Many people who vote third party, don’t vote at all, or think all politicians are slime might be encouraged and vote Republican.
The problem with the GOP is not that it’s not “inclusive” enough (what a nauseating word), it’s that it’s too shallow, pandering, and moderate, IOW too liberal.
