Kudos to you Michael. Now stand tall and proud. Be strong and push conservative principles. Do not falter and do not shrink from the fight against Obama and the Democrats.

"I will stand with Steele."

And I got his back. Mike, kudos to you - it's time to rebuild the joint from the ground up. Let's rumble!

“It wasn’t from a debate. It was from an interview on Meet the Press.”

See - you don’t even know the source material. It was very well from a debate between Ben Cardin (whom I suppose you hold on equal terms with Steele) and Steele hosted on MTP by Russert.

I can see by your responses you are blinding yourself. Steele is a pro-lifer. However in a tough Senate campaign in which Steele as a Senator would have no say whatsoever on Roe (read ROE, not pro-life issues because there is much more to life than Roe) you want him to be some kind of rediculous purist to his every detriment. I promise you if somehow Roe could be overturned by the Senate, Steele would’ve voted to do so but it’s an impracticality. Roe is the purview of SCOTUS not Congress. However I can promise you Steele would’ve voted to uphold anything life related in law.

And no, you didn’t explain how Steele can be the first pro-abortionist ever who is a die hard anti-ESCR.

In retrospect was Steele’s answer on Roe flippant and sloppy, even perhaps too pragmatic, well - yes. But does it tarnish him when he has demostrated again and again through word and deed and as a truly Catholic member of the community so much that one single segment of one single debate during one very tough election in a very blue state held nearly 2-1/2 years ago is going to be curtains for one’s membership in the GOP. Well, that is INSANE.

“And honestly, my tolerance for that kind of crap is pretty much used up.”

Don’t let the bastards get you down. Pendulums swing back and they swing forth. Our day is coming.

“But maybe it’s too much to hope that he’s truly a pro-lifer of integrity.”

I wouldn’t say such things if I were you. It’s presumptuous and mean spirited. Mr. Steele is now the Chairman of our Party and he hears us. He said Conservatism today in his speech not Moderate or Liberal.

“They’re like Catholics. You cannot count on a ‘Lutheran’ necessarily following Biblical principles.”

Every religion is like that.

I'll take him at his word that he believes that Roe should stand. At least until he says otherwise.

Unfortunately, letting Roe v. Wade stand is Steele's position. I've been pointing this out for a couple of years.

Steele is an anti-gun, pro-abortion liberal.

So he’s a perfect fit for the “new” Republican party.

No thanks.

I never said it mattered I am merely pleased he is a Catholic.

Why are you pleased that he is a Catholic?

Winning the issue means putting it to begin in the hands of the states where the discussion can begin. It’s not going to happen at the national level for obvious reasons.

The simple fact is the MSM will play with that for a few weeks, and then it will be a black guy criticizing a black guy, thus defusing all the hope the MSM had for Obama being bulletproofed on any subject because in the end they could ALWAYS whisper “racist”.

Never thought of that. It is true the media will have to retool their spin. Got to love it.

“But I found his interview from October 2006 on Meet the Press to be very disappointing. I still voted for him, hoping that in the weeks and months to come, he’d clarify his position, and reiterate that Roe must go.

But he didn’t.

Now it’s over two years.”

There’s something a bit amiss about the stance you take. Do you really expect ex-candidates to clarify their campaign afterwards? C’mon - that’s just a wee bit silly.

Anyway I’m sure Steele has made a pro-life statement since, I believe maybe in connection with his run for this chairmanship but I don’t know where.

One of the major reasons why the GOP’s fortunates have faded was due to the decline in suburban Catholic support. Any GOP comeback must include winning back suburban Catholics. Having Steele as RNC is a step in the right direction.

You can end your perpetual campaign against Steele. Besides being untrue, um, there’s that Obama administration, uh, out there doin’ stuff. You know...

I wonder how the DUmmies are reacting. Judging from the reception of Steele in some corners here I know they must be thrilled we just elected a liberal pro-abortionist as Chairman. /sarc

When Steele was running for Senate in 2006, Obama visited Prince George County to rally support for Cardin. Obama said, “Its great that Republicans know blacks exist in America.”

The media will repeat that line about Steele.

Over turning Roe v. Wade "at the national level" would be the first step in winning the issue.

Thus the concern.

Libs are screaming about how he’s a token. We have to have our “black guy”. They really are vile and repugnant.

I’m off to check to see how the “Rebuild the Party” gang is feeling about this. I’m GG over there, too!

If you don’t want to take friendly advice, so be it. Just don’t think it wins you any “high ground”.
