The former commander of the USS Cole, the American war ship that was struck by a suicide boat in Yemeni waters more than eight years ago, on Thursday slammed President Barack Obama's orders to close the Guantanamo detention center and reassess the prisoners being held there.

Sickening. All you need to know:
“Because the Pentagon sought military execution for Nashiri, the American Civil Liberties Union hired death penalty specialists to assist in his defense.”
The last Democrat President didn’t lift a finger to punish these guys either.
Lest we forget...:(
Which is EXACTLY the reason we kept getting hit.
It will be instructive to see how the Democrats try to destroy this man.
Every instructive.
ping
That is because those fingers were too busy holding a wet cigar.
Some should see if this commander wants to be a plaintiff in orly, Berg’s or Apuzzo’s suit. My guess is he could probably could get thousands of Navy reserve and retired plaintiffs.
On the record.
What does he know? He’s only a Naval Commander. We need to listen to our Military more. The Commander in Chief knows nothing about the military.
By the end of the year he'll be plumbing depths most recently inhabited by our last president.
“Shot while trying to escape” says it all.
BUMP!
True.
However, I think 0 counts using the USMC for their gym to work out at while on vacation in Hawaii as “military experience”.
It simply “sounded good” on the campaign trail. As does talking to rogue terrorist states sworn to kill you, Kyoto, and many other things. These aren't topics that make sense, they are driven be a compelling mood and feeling that the politician tries to tap into with his rhetoric.
Trying to show some immediate results and “change” he's going after what he perceives easy to accomplish and low risk targets. GITMO is one of them. In the grand scheme, most of these guys will never pose a great threat to us anymore. Most have little intelligence value at this point. The added costs of this political “dog and pony show” won't be that great. There will be little degradation in our ability to fight terrorism or other threats......... It's not going to change much, but the symbolism of this high profile event matters the world to many of those that voted for Obama and are looking for “change.”
Let's hope that on the serious issues of Iraq, Afghanistan, missile defense, the Patriot Act, NSA eavesdropping, force modernization, etc. Obama cashes in on some of the political capital he's now trying to build. In the big picture, GITMO means little when compared to missile defense or other real issues. GITMO at this point is more symbolic for those that oppose it, and the real issues of closing GITMO will now bubble to the surface but be over ridden by a media which will give these concerns little time.
How do civilian courts deal with cases that involve classified incriminating information?
No one ever thought about the additional costs.
Few considered the security of these detainees themselves once moved even if into the US.
Where will they be housed? Hopefully in those places that support the closing of GITMO!
etc etc etc.
Many issues will arise, little will be said about them. But what remains is the good warm fuzzy feeling left behind by “change.”
I’d like to see him show them how to use “Unarmed Combat”. He might be able to teach them something????
