A U.S. official says President Barack Obama has authorized more aid to Palestinians in the Gaza Strip to help them recover from damage caused during a recent Israeli offensive.
U.S. Middle East envoy George Mitchell said Friday in Jerusalem that Mr. Obama has approved $20 million in emergency food and medical assistance for Gaza.
Fighting may cause more setbacks
Mitchell says it is important to consolidate a durable and sustainable cease-fire between Israel and Gaza's Hamas rulers while immediately addressing Gaza's humanitarian needs. He also says fighting in the region may cause more setbacks to peace efforts.
Mitchell says Washington remains committed to, "actively and aggressively seeking a lasting peace between Israel and its Arab neighbors."
US envoy meets with Israeli opposition leader
The U.S. envoy continued his first official tour of the region Friday by meeting with Israeli opposition leader Benjamin Netanyahu in Jerusalem. Mr. Netanyahu is a front-runner in the race to become Israel's next prime minister after elections next month.

Why cant the frickin arabs pay for this with all their petrodollars.
No question now that Obama is a Muzzie sympathizer.
###
This Saudis have already said they would give One BILLION to re-build Gaza.
That should tell people everything about Obama.
Why are we paying for this?
Oh well, it was expected. That's where a bunch of his campaign money came from...
It’s not illegal, we’ve been giving them hundreds of millions of $ a year for several years now.
>>Unflippin’ believeable.
How much of this money does 0bama suspect WON’T be spent on weapons to kill Israelis? <<
that’s the key.
If we ship grain and penicillin that’s ok. Its ok if we trust the Israelis to buy food and medicine for Gaza locally. Its good PR.
But I hope to goodness we aren’t putting a dime in Hamas’ bloody hands
The Muslim is outed.
Did President Bush give money to the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip?
“America is broke and should not be sending money to terrorists organizations!”
It’s my understanding that ACORN just got $4-$5 billion in the so-called stimulus package.
Unless, of course, you're in the business of selling arms. Big ticket items. Which, if course, the US Gov't is.
In war, you either get rich or you get dead. I guess the there are those in the US Gov't who would rather be rich.
I dont support funding Abbas security forces either but it’s not really the same as giving money to Gaza. The PA actually had a mini war with hamas before hamas took over Gaza. The PA is the closest thing there is to a “respectable” Palestinian government.
Different pie. U.S. defense contractors sell arms, the government just buys them with our money, and then uses more of our money to give gifts to both sides of the conflict. John Q. Taxpayer never makes a thing, he just finances all of it.
allot...
If the Bush administration held to it's conditions, not a dime;
The Bush administration wants Hamas to renounce violence and recognize Israel as a condition for ending a Western aid boycott. Until these conditions are met, under U.S. law Hamas could not get any of the $86 million
but the article is a year old, so who knows. Interesting though, that Obama orders millions sent to terrorists on the same day he orders the military to downsize at least 10%.
Probably just a coincidence.
“Mr. Obama has approved $20 million in emergency food and medical assistance for Gaza.”
What country will we be borrowing from to cover THIS twenty million?
That's the big deal, Roberts. It's like all those multi-millions sent to Arafat that the Palestinians rarely saw a penny of. Sending $20 million to Gaza Palestinians is handing over $20 million to Hamas terrorists and the hungry, poor Palestinians will continue to be hungry and poor - because that is their purpose and their fate ordained by their own co-religionists.
HELL NO!
Maybe they don't need to get our taxes anymore as a giant protest.
What if everyone just stopped paying? They can't put the whole US in jail.
