President Barack Obama has brought a more relaxed style to the White House, according to Sheryl Gay Stolberg of the New York Times, among other things going suit coat-less in the Oval Office and allowing others to do the same.
Obama critics will probably hold this against him and mark him down as disrespecting the presidency.
But the Oval Office is an office after all, even if it is the world's most famous one. At bottom, it is a work space albeit it holds an almost sacred place in the hearts of many Americans.
Most Americans probably won't begrudge Obama the comfort of being able to doff his suit coat in the Oval. They've got bigger worries these days.
Indeed, they'll likely accept the image of him in his shirtsleeves as evidence of an executive working hard to solve the nation's problems.
One of the story's most memorable anecdotes is actually not about Obama but former President George Bush and it was told by Dan Bartlet who was a senior adviser to Obama's predecessor.

Folks don’t realize that the President, or BHO’s “Precedent” status, actually has an office just off the oval office. The oval office is ceremonial for official acts and visits etc . All the real work and meetings with “staff” are supposed to be accomplished in that working office.
Obamainista trash may as well duct tape a basketball hoop on the wall using the presidential seal as a backboard. He and his handlers are all about disrespect for the office...... were I told I was President of the US tomorrow I couldn’t steam clean and remodel that place enough to get the stench of sedition and disrespect out of it....
Just my opinion....
Chicago style politics in the Oval Office.
Not much of an improvement from the bubba administration.
I didn’t say or infer these were on White House property? I also noted the Palm trees. The discussion here was about the Oval Office, but I didn’t characterize your photos in a manner other than to allude to the shirts being a little loud. I merely asked a question.
He SURE did.
What Would Reagan Do?
Sure, fat a$$ mikie will fit right in at Zero’s office.
Moron voters elected a slob gangbanger potus.
In other words he is an arrogant, self-absorbed, ignorant, America hating clod. Well, DUH!
You and I both Squantos. I’ve worn suit and tie to work. I don’t think it damaged me too much. You can always loosen your tie and collar too. It’s not that big a deal.
I wouldn’t have brought my dog in their like Ford did either.
I doubt he ever wore one while working in the Oval Office.
Ouch!
I’m waiting for the pictures of Obama signing legislation in the Oval Office while wearing a Che shirt.
call the fashion police!
Isn’t those droopy pants an old prison communication that the ‘back door’ was open?
Thanks for the additional comments.
RELAX!!!!? The economy is faltering. Congress is about to spend us in to oblivion and this idiot brings a “relaxed” style. What next, Leisure suits.
Hopefully Members Only jackets (fingers crossed)/sarc :)
I think objections to men sitting in the Oval Office in shirtsleeves are ridiculous. Who cares?
I know, even at 10:00 PM, Reagan wouldn’t set foot in the Oval Office without a jacket. Fine.
Personally, I would like to see the Supreme Court’s temple demolished, and let the Justices do their work in cubicles under fluorescent lights like everyone else. The same with Congress and the President.
They all need to be taken down about ten pegs.
