The House of Representatives approved an $819 billion economic stimulus package Wednesday, dealing the new Obama administration a legislative victory but also giving Republicans a chance to show their resolve as the opposition party.
The final vote was 244-188, mostly along party lines. All Republicans who were present voted against the bill. They were joined in their opposition by 11 Democrats.
The largely partisan vote undercut Obama's push for bipartisan support for the bill after he had argued that a new style of politics is needed in Washington.

Well. I’m surprised. Well done House Republicns. Now do this on every questionable piece of legislation. Democrats don’t need your votes so make them own it all.

It’s sad that the only time republicans, for the most part, don’t act like democrats is when their is a far-left goon is in the White House. Maybe now they will go the extra mile and encourage a tax revolt.
To: Polarik
Oh, they don’t want the rest of the world to exploit your medical records.
They just want to exploit you themselves.

I think we should refer to this as the ‘Uber-Earmark Bill’. It's mostly earmarks for the Dem loyals who bought the Presidency for 0bama.
To: freeangel
This is frickin ridiculous. And the e-mail addresses I have to try and stop it in the senate are coming back as invalid.
Perhaps that's the noun-form of the word, as in "Senator Doe is an invalid."

I don't understand:
If this bill is to jolt the economy and increase jobs, why does it have increase in unemployment benefits.

Elections have consequences and unfortunately this is one of the first ugly ones. I am glad to see that not a single Republican voted for it. Thank God for their sense. The Republicans in the Senate need to speak loudly against this wasteful spending that will have little if any impact on the economy. Especially parts like funding abortions anywhere from federal funds and billions to crooks like ACORN.

A tool --yes. But that's all they are. Have you noticed recently the winning Deaniac strategy of running conservative Dems against namby pamby RINOS???
DEMS will do anything to gain power. Yes there are a very few blue and yellow Dems many of whom members come from conservative districts, where liberal Democrats comprise a decided minority of the general population.
The idea is to get them in power first and then use Machiavellian means to push through their programs anyway.
the GOP needs to run real conservatives to win. The strategy they have been using doesn't work. No more creepy compassionate conservatism.

no that is not true
the bill provides:
“That of the amount appropriated under this heading $500,000,000 shall be used to carry out evidence-based clinical and community-based prevention and wellness strategies and public health workforce development activities”
