It was a classic case of lèse majesté, and it left Andrea Mitchell fuming. The NBC correspondent, first on Today and later on Morning Joe, expressed outrage over the unkind words about Caroline Kennedy that New York Governor David Paterson let leak after JFKs daughter withdrew her name from consideration for appointment to Hillarys open Senate seat.
There was a whiff of the liberal elite circling the wagons around one of their own to the way Mitchell, with an assist from Mike Barnicle, went about denouncing David Paterson.
MIKA BRZEZINSKI: So Andrea, how would you characterize the emotions that the Kennedy family is feeling right now about this Chinese fire drill that Caroline went through? Are they at all angry?
[snip]
MITCHELL: And so she withdraws, and does it in a one-sentence statement after midnight. And then, the governor and people around him go ahead and trash hertrash her reputation. She is out of the race, and he is, you know, on top. And there is no excuse. Barnicle, bear me out on this for the way this woman was treated, no matter her uncertain, awkward start in politics. To do that to anyone, and to a public servant and to someone who has played the role she has in American history, is outrageous.

For anyone foolish enough to believe that the left does not regard absolute rule an absolute birthright, just tune in to the lovely, clear thinking Angela.
What role has Caroline Kennedy played in public service? Did I miss something?
They (the media) certainly had a field day trying to crucify Sarah Palin, and her children. Libs and their double standards *eye roll*
“To do that to anyone, and to a public servant... is outrageous.
Really? It never stopped her from trashing President Bush on a regular basis.
Just what reputation?
The little we saw was a total embarrassment. Inarticulate in the extreme.
It’s a mercy that the accidental governor chose someone else.
When you listen to Gillibrand speak you can’t help but compare her to the princess you know.
exactly! Role, what role? She is barely a footnote in American history. Palin is an entire book.
Maybe Caroline was aneighbourhood coordinatorlike Obama.
A bystander to historical tragedy is now a role in history? It's tragic Caroline Kennedy's father was killed the same as it's tragic that any child loses a parent, and to be sure, she has been in the public eye since then because of it, but Andrea, step away from the Camelot bong! This woman has had no role in American history. These Kennedy sycophants are truly deranged.
Sure sounds like a slur against the Chinese.I hope somebody
picks this up.
GE is NBC’s parent company. The stock is under $13 for the first time that I can remember. Somebody (stockholders) are saying something.
Oblberman is always dead last in viewership. Eventually, he will be shown the door, although I wish it would happen today.
Caroline is apparently a slut who was screwing the publisher of the NYT. She thought get that info out, especially the other Democrats who wanted the job?
I’ve found this whole affair extremely satisfying.
From liberal hacks like Andrea Mitchell, to the NY Democratic Party, through the historical accident that is Patterson....to Hillary getting Caroline Kennedy’s nomination shot down (nobody kills politically like the Clinton’s...nobody) to McCarthy’s ongoing one trick pony shrewness....in a bad political week for Conservatives this was a God Send.
JMHO.

‘Meet the Press’ transcript for August 31, 2008
MR. BROKAW: To that end, the National Review said, “By picking Alaska Governor Sarah Palin as his running mate, John McCain has wowed the public and enthused the right. He has reinforced some of his winning themes that he has the mind-set of an outsider and a fighter against corruption. He’s also reinforced his appeal as a candidate more in touch with traditional values and moral issues.” That goes to the base.
There are other Republicans who are saying, “Listen, we’ll be able to pull those Hillary Clinton voters who are not happy with the way Obama treated her across the line.” What are the chances of that, Andrea?
MS. ANDREA MITCHELL: Well, they, they think now that they have a story. They have a story of a working mom, she is a colorful character, an Annie Oakley, you know, Annie get your gun. They love her story. But when she tried to talk about Hillary Clinton in Pennsylvania, in western Pennsylvania yesterday at a rally with conservative Republican voters, Hillary Clinton was booed. So she can use the Hillary Clinton and Geraldine Ferraro analogy if she wants to in interviews. She cannot use that at Republican rallies. She is not appealing to the same women who were really voting or supporting Hillary Clinton on ideological issues, but they think that they can peel off some of these working class women, not college-educated, who—the blue collar women who were voting for Hillary Clinton and may be more conservative on social causes.
and what role did she play in history other than just being the surviving child of an assassinated president?
Exactly. It is crucial to point out this smarmy hypocrisy. While I don't condone the dirty side of politics and am pleased to see defense of one who doesn't deserve the treatment they've received, such as in Caroline’s case, Sarah certainly deserved the same from the same.
Amazing! You just made her look like Eleanor Clift.
BTW, I heard a rumor that Hillary opposed nominating Caroline.
I would like to think that the damage done to the Camalot myth will be irreparable. However, I will bet you dollars to donuts that Caroline Kennedy winds up elected to Uncle Teddy’s seat in Massachusetts, and then Camalot will rise again.
How is she a public servant. I know she did some fund raising for some toney charity but isn’t that just something rich socialites do? And is a public servant sort of like a community organizer? I’m confused.
And what kind of public servant has she ever been? I’m a school volunteer and think I outrank her on public service.
If I believed in personal attacks I’d say that Andrea Mitchell looks like her face caught on fire and someone tried to put it out with an ice pick. But I’m not into personal attacks. So I won’t.
