WASHINGTON, D.C. - U.S. Senators Lindsey Graham (R-South Carolina) and John McCain (R-Arizona) today issued the following statement regarding the executive order put forth by President Obama calling for the closure of the prison at Guantanamo:
We support President Obamas decision to close the prison at Guantanamo, reaffirm Americas adherence to the Geneva Conventions, and begin a process that will, we hope, lead to the resolution of all cases of Guantanamo detainees, said Senator Lindsey Graham and Senator John McCain. The executive orders issued today constitute an important step in the right direction but leave several major issues unaddressed.
Numerous difficult issues remain, Senator Graham and Senator McCain continued. Present at Guantanamo are a number of detainees who have been cleared for release but have found no foreign country willing to accept them. Other detainees have been deemed too dangerous for release, but the sensitive nature of the evidence makes prosecution difficult. The militarys proper role in processing detainees held on the battlefield at Bagram, Afghanistan, and other military prisons around the world must be defended, but that is left unresolved. Also unresolved is the type of judicial process that would replace the military commissions. We believe the military commissions should have been allowed to continue their work. We look forward to working with the President and his administration on these issues, keeping in mind that the first priority of the U.S. government is to guarantee the security of the American people.

hehe......this guy is just another global elitist.
...oh you mean the ‘dubious methodology’ polls that ended up be 100% correct?
No matter how much I was attacked for posting polls that you and others didn’t want to see or being accused of making comments that correctly labeled McCain as a POS RINO, I think we can all agree that I was pretty much right. McCain would have done more harm to our party in just 4 years than W ever did in 8.
McCain = Obama “light”
The NIMBY argument is just starting to heat up on Gitmo prisoners.
Where do you put the prisoners and keep them isolated at the same time?
For starters next to McCain’s Ranch and in the Olympic housing near Obama’s house.
The way I look at it, Sarah was the spoonful of sugar that made the medicine go down. Or in this case, the cyanide. But no matter how much I try to rationalize it now, the fact is, I voted for John McCain -- a man I loathe above all other politicians -- to be President of the United States. And I'm deeply ashamed of that decision.
I'll have to put in extra hours to help defeat him in '10 to make amends. Hopefully, many others will be doing the same.
Now can we hate him?????
I always did.
Juan, Juan, Juan. Read the Geneva Convention. It’s online. It does not cover non-uniformed combatants. You know what a uniform is, Juan?
Someone please remind me why I voted for this guy. I will withhold all monies to the RNC until Republicans become Conservative again. I believe it is time to reward behavior of the individual rather than a blanket party reward that provides funds to fools like these two.
Those of us who voted for him knew that this was his position, in most cases we had to grit our teeth to vote for him, frequently doing so just because of Sarah Palin. We never thought he would be a good President, but as tens of thousands of Americans and others are killed because of the sniveling cowards now running the country, and additional millions of the unborn are butchered by them, at least we will know that we tried to prevent this to the last.
“Best western movie in decades, and one of the best acting jobs as Doc Holiday. Ever.”
Absolutely. In my top 10 favorite collection.
LOL. And I swear, this is true: the Republican Senatorial Committee called me today asking for money.
I hung up.
I was not one who dismissed valid polls.
And if you're proud of yourself for calling McCain a RINO POS throughout the campaign, that says more about you than about him.
I thought then and I believe now, had we elected the old geezer (with melanoma)and had Sarah Palin in the wings, we'd be much better off than we are now.
I never voted for him nor obama.....both the same
Running back into the arms of the scumbag media that crucified him. Still wants to be invited to all the best parties.
I voted against the RINO POS McCain once, I am proud of my vote, and I would vote the same way again in a heartbeat.
“We believe the military commissions should have been allowed to continue their work.”
yep
The press release was all about the buts.
As far as polls go, you attacked me for even posting likely voter polls that showed a big deficit (> 5 points) for McCain. Those turned out to be right....and you were clearly wrong.
I voted against the RINO POS McCain once twice, once for Ron Paul and the second time for Chuck Baldwin, I am proud of my votes, and I would vote the same way again in a heartbeat.
There were no other acceptable candidates on the Republican primary ballot in Virginia. My other choices were McCain and Huckabee. [Fred Thompson, Mitt Romney, and the others had already dropped out by the time the Virginia primaries were held.] As for the Virginia general election ballot, I could not write in Palin, since she was not a pre-approved and pre-registered write-in candidate; and Barr drank Al Gore's global warming Kool-Aid.
I almost got duped into voting for McCain, but after the bailouts, I drove over two-hundred miles round trip and waited in line for over an hour to correct my error. And I would do it again!!!
