Gene Robinson, Episcopal bishop of New Hampshire, gave the opening prayer for the inaugural festivities in Washington, D.C., on Sunday. Ignoring the theme of unity set for the inauguration, Robinson gave not a prayer but a political speech, one worthy of a college sophomore hot to tweak his parents.
Robinson explained his non-Christian "prayer" by saying he thought previous inaugural prayers were "aggressively Christian." In hope of excluding no one, he excluded Christ. Except, he mentioned God, so he left the athiests out in the cold. Oh, well.
By Robinson's own logic, he should not have been allowed to pray at all for fear of offending nonbelievers. But that's silly. And so is refusing to mention Christ for fear of offending non-Christians.
Through the years, Robinson has had many opportunities to make his beliefs known in ways that don't offend and divide people. Most of the time, he chooses to divide. For a man of God, that's really not productive behavior. But it sure draws a lot of attention to Gene Robinson.
Another ex-Episcopalian here, now happily in the arms of Mother Church. I would urge all Episcopalians who are disgusted by this man - and many others like him in the Episcopal Church - to just leave, and leave now. If Rome is not your thing then look elsewhere. The point is: just GO. It’s hard, but once you do it, you will wonder what took you so long, and your spiritual walk with Our Lord Jesus Christ will take on an all-new level of importance and meaning in your life.
Another point: most Episcopalians know at least one priest or bishop, and maybe more than one, who has been fired, and possibly even de-frocked forever, because of one incidence of a sexual affair with a woman resulting in a divorce from his wife. Gene not only got off scot-free, but is lionized in the media, made a bishop, and is asked to speak at huge public events of national importance such as the Inauguration of President Barack Obama. This blatant and in-your-face hypocrisy around this one issue, more than anything else, is what is fueling the massive exodus from the Episcopal Church
Something about calling your Savior a liar when He said He’s the only way...
catholics and orthodox were excluded in this inauguration.
instead we have a pop culture televangilist and a antheist homosexual episcopal bishop...
CBSs wonderful reporter just reported that Rick Warren came out of St. Johns to welcome Biden when, in fact, it was Rev. Dr. León, St. Johns rector.”
Which may lead credence to the fact that “reporters” have no idea who religious leaders are....they cannot ID anyone outside of Osama Bin Laden, it seems.
Jesus is going to have the last laugh on these godless politicians and unsaved liberals.
There’s a place of torment called HELL which will take care of them for all eternity.
