(IsraelNN.com) United States President-elect Barack Obama said he will appoint a team immediately after his inauguration on Tuesday to address on "Day One" the crisis in Gaza, as well as other troubles across the Middle East.
"We've got a regional set of problems," Obama said in an interview with USA Today, noting the challenges in Iran, Afghanistan and Pakistan in addition to the war over the Land of Israel. "They're not going to be solved in isolation. And we've got to be active in all these areas in order for us to be successful in any of these areas."
According to the report, Obama is planning a diplomatic offensive, which could include the appointment of special envoys, and which contrasts sharply with President Bush's approach to the region. Bush put less emphasis on the Israeli-Palestinian conflict early in his tenure and tended to deal with Middle East problems separately, the report explained.
Most Americans Blame Arab Side The most recent poll by Rasmussen Reports showed 53% of Americans at least somewhat confident in Obamas ability to deal with the situation in Gaza, including 25% who are very confident in the President-elect.
The Rasmussen poll found that 56 percent of voters nationwide believe that the Palestinians are to blame for the current situation in Gaza, while 13 percent say Israel is at fault. Close to half - 45% - said Israel was justified in taking military action against Gaza, while 38% opined that the Jewish nation should have tried harder to find a diplomatic solution.
As in the earlier survey, Republicans strongly agree with Israel, while Democrats wish there had been more efforts at diplomacy. Half of those polled said Israel should agree to a truce now, while 26 percent disagree.
Don’t we have a State Department to handle all foreign affairs???
Pawning off more responsibilities to others. I bet Hillary is going to loooove having another bit of her turf snatched away.
Obama it is all out of your control and there isn’t a friggin thing you can do to stop it.
There is going to be much fighting and backstabbing between his Cabinet, his many “czars” and all of his special teams. Too many chiefs and not enough indians.
Just part of the 3 million jobs he’ll create.
No doubt OBL is on that team; one of their own allies. Each of us must pray daily that we’re no where near the next ground zero that these clowns make very likely.
my head says this guy’s probably not (a) the beast (b) the false prophet. it seems a bit too soon. but it could be.
She will be a SOS figurehead only...an obedient figurehead.
Is this before or after he takes his show on the road.
Talk about a perpetual campaign. He makes bubba seem presidential. well, not exactly!
OH OK, now that 0bama is is charge, he'll fix that whole problem in the middle east. They'll listen to him. He probably has a team working on it now. It should take what, a week or two? No Prob.
See Daniel 8:25...that shoe may fit..
Looks like BO wants to be “Action Man”. Probably will make a lot of noise but absent acceptance of the realities in the ME, it will be Carter II, or worse.
Every president since Carter has promised to hit the ground running on the Middle East from day one, and not a single one of them has succeeded at anything. I don’t see Obama being any different.
Woohoo! Wars are over! The big O wil appoint a team so we've nothing more to worry about!
he's presently on TV babbling about the economy, and each time he stops it sounds like someone turning on an applause machine..
O: "We're going to work on that..."
(background) -PPing!CLAPPING!CLAPPING!CLA-
O: "And I know you're ready for that!"
(background) "-AHAHAHAHAHAHAH-"
O: "Maybe we can get more wind power to get this economy going..."
(background) -APPING!CLAPPING!CLAPPING!CLA-
O: "instead of just hearing it on the Hill!"
(background) "-AHAHAHAHAHAHAH-"
This guy is going to have more “teams” than ever, yet NOTHING will ever get accomplished.
And, he did so to insulate our ally - Israel. This adminisration, on the other hand, fully intends to sell our friends down the river.
