Pajamas Media ^ | January 13 | Jennifer Rubin

Perhaps it is all a gigantic head fake. Maybe President-elect Obama is going to dash Left as soon as he utters the words “So help me God” next week. But so far, there seems to be the most astounding and sweeping repudiation of a president’s own base of support in the offing since … well, since forever.

The president-elect may end up pleasing conservatives more than McCain would have...

Yes, they are going call his “tax cuts” right/center.

The loons on the way left will scream, some in the right will be fooled, but we’ll (Taxpayer) all be paying more at the end of the day.

This conservative would really be pleased were Hussein hire Ted Kennedy as his offical personal chauffer. Beyond there isn’t much else that he will do for the next four long and miserable years.

Excuse me? Did this guy not just vow to spend over 1-trillion dollars? Did he not call for how many thousand new government employees?

Exactly what part of that is centrist? This author is off the rocker.

A centrist? I would like to know if he’s a CITIZEN, first.

Still sniffing for Neocons at every corner Kirk? You haven't responded after your little hit 'n run on Palin, I see.

I also wonder about your take on this...

gigantic head fake.

I believe that Obama said that he does not oppose prosecuting Bush Administration personnel for "crimes."

The man who would be Lincoln could just as well go after all those conservative radio copperheads.

If he comes out with this $300MM tax cut that would be historic. Has there ever been a democrat president come out of the gate or for that matter ever had a tax cut?

Obama’s Centrism Could Drive the GOP Out of Business.....

Sorry, but the GOP has done quite well in driving itself out of business when they abandoned conservative fiscal principles.......from read my lips to GW’s dramatic government growth......

Obama is a master of ambiguous or meaningless gestures. Since the election he has been picking leftists and Clinton retreads for the important positions (with a few exceptions such as Defense). His biggest gesture to the other side is asking Rick Warren to do the invocation--something of no practical effect once he is sworn in.

Stephanopoulos was trying to get Obama to promise to go after the top Bush administration people for their supposed crimes--Obama avoided committing to do so, but he also didn't rule it out.

I actually agree with that. He made it very clear a year or so ago that he was not going to govern by ideology, but from the center. I think people on the right as well as the left are going to have a hard time placing a finger on it, or at least how to counter it.

I only have one thing to say for people like Jenny who hope Obama will turn out to be a centrist:

Get used to disappointment.

He said it... so you believe it?

There is nothing "very clear" about this guy.

Problem is that he will pass too many folks' definition of "centrist" because the political establishment has drifted so far to the left already.

I think this columnist's point is that Obama made specific promises to the lefties — for example, that he would close Guantanamo Bay immediately — that he is reneging on before he even is in office.

“If he governs to the right, he will pick up enough conservative votes to add to those he got this last time around...”

It’s funny you should mention this. I was perusing through a local bookstore recently, and I found a book written by the lickspittles at NBC (”How Barack Obama Won: A State-by-State Guide to the History 2008 Election”). While the commentary is enough to make you barf, the data they provide is very enlightening.

One thing that struck me as interesting was that, overall, 13% of Republicans voted for Obama. In contrast, only 7% of Democrats voted for McCain.

One could argue, actually, that it was that not-inconsequential minority of Republicans who put Obama over the top. Ain’t that a kick in the shins?

The devil is in the details. Its not a tax cut when half of this money is going to people who don't pay taxes anyway. Its just another name for welfare.

Where is the nascent obama regime in the “center”? Only by defining the “center” as further and further to the left, does this situation apply.

There is no “right” to health insurance. There is no pollution from carbon dioxide, an essential plant food. There is no inherent right for the government to confer the rights of health, happiness and the pursuit of happiness to ANYONE, as these rights were conferred by our Creator, and existed long before there was ever a United States. It is only despots that seek to deny these natural rights, and they may only do it by force and coercion.

There is an instruction book. It is called the U.S. Constitution.

The Obamanator has just seated the most liberal cabinet in history, albeit mostly Clintonistas. He speaks of increased taxes, and “...everybody having to give up some skin” in this “tough economy”. He has remarked on policy agendas that can and if implemented will bankrupt this nation. He is so far left, he should be sitting in Beijing not Washington.

And with the most liberal Congress in the history of this great nation, the only recourse I can see out of eventual Socialism is a coup d’etat. Something I can actually envision happening should the ObamaNation come to fruition.

Best of luck all and God bless America.

Redistribution of wealth my friend. And the bigger the welfare state, the happier the Feds. Both sides of the aisle have culpability in the state our Nation currently exists. Until Republicans in Washington start acting like conservatives, they are not going to get the support of conservatives, and they will continually lose their seats. I just hope 4 years of liberalism will sicken people enough to ensure a conservative base for YEARS to come. But we can only HOPE, LOL.
