I’d like to be able to believe that Obama “throwing down the gauntlet” like that would cause a backlash that would destroy his alleged presidency. I am a Catholic and I hope the Bishops would follow through and close the hospitals. The thing which is held over the heads of the Bishops is the “tax-exempt” status which can be used to force submission. My dream is that the Bishops would defy the administration on that. I think the Church would win on that in the secular sense, but, even if they didn’t, they’d still have the larger spiritual victory.
