Burris Consulting With Attorneys After Being Barred From Senate
Fox News ^ | 1/6/9 | Stephen Clark

WASHINGTON -- Roland Burris headed to Capitol Hill Tuesday to demand a seat in the 111th Congress, insisting that if he isn't allowed to take the oath of office as the next senator from Illinois, the Senate could have a lawsuit on its hands.

Participating in the theatrics, Burris was greeted by Sergeant at Arms Terrance Gainer, a door-keeper and an official from Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid's office before going to the appointment desk on the third floor and to the secretary of the Senate. There, his credentials were denied.

Burris was appointed by Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich, who was arrested last month and accused of trying to sell the vacated U.S. Senate seat previously held by President-elect Barack Obama.

See post #51. Reid is trampling on the state of Illinois’ rights at this point. He has no obligation to wait for any Illinois certification of the appointment.

Congress immediately voted to expel him by the required 2/3 majority. Powell went off to Bimini. Burris case could be the same sequence of events if 7 or 8 Republican votes cand be mustered.

That's assuming they can even get all the democrat votes. It'll never ever happen. Not in this chickenshit senate.

I just wonder what difference it makes which crook from Illinois goes to Washington, the place is filled with them from all over the country..and Reed is one of the biggest crooks there..The conclusion I have come to is the Dem’s are showing who the real racist are..they don’t want a black man in the Senate..as far as they are concerned he belongs with the other blacks in the congress..BTW where are the NAACP in all of this..haven’t heard a word from those racist either..

Senate Democrats praised Burris but said they could not accept any appointment by Blagojevich after his arrest on corruption charges earlier this month.

Why should that bother them? It doesn't with any of the other corrupt democrats such as Jefferson, Rangel, etc.

*** I am not DEFENDING blago in anyway ***

okay.

** I am just saying that he may not be the only one involved... 88

He's not the only one. His entire Admin has been under investigation for years for corruption. As such, it wasn't a matter of 'if' he would be indicted (or arrested) by the Feds, it was only a matter of 'when'.

*** who do you think wants blago to be considered a lone psychopath..**

Since he was sworn in, almost six years ago, he's acted more like Nero or Caligula with his 'Governor Edicts', than even the goofiest of politicians. And from day one he declared war on his own RAT party and the IL House Speaker, Mike Madigan - the most powerful pol in IL. The boy ain't right in the head.

And thanks to asshat Blago and his 'Edicts', I'm now PAYING (more) to support Chicago's bankrupt and failed transit system, the CTA. All so seniors can ride 'free'. This even po'd mayor Richie Daley.

Blago is power hungry and mentally ill - period.

That’s simply incorrect. The Illinois SOS doesn’t have to sign the certification — he/she has just done so historically. There is no legal requirement to do so — Burris IS the junior Senator from Illinois and it is a direct violation of Illinois state law and the united states constitution not to seat him.

HAHAHAHHA!!!!! This is hilarious! Well, it serves him right! He was appointed by a corrupt governor who tried to sell the seat in the first place.

I don't think it's hilarious at all. He was legitimately appointed by a sitting governor, the only person in this nation who has the right to determine who will hold this seat right now, period. Blago has been convicted of NOTHING. Heck, Blago hasn't even been INDICTED, has he?

This affair illustrates just how out of control the Democrats in Washington are, and you should find it very troubling.

They need more time to build a “Negroes Only” door at the Democrat controlled Senate.

It's called megalomania.

Seems to be a genetic condition common to Democrat politicians (see, among others, Spitzer, Eliot; Pelosi, Nancy).

“This affair illustrates just how out of control the Democrats in Washington are, and you should find it very troubling.”

I just think that a Governor who has a history of corruption and who did try to sell the Senate seat, and has less than 4% approval rating...how are we conservatives supposed to side with him?

I do think the Democrats are absolutely insane. I really do.

I think the right of the people of Illinois has been violated: they should decide the senator. No corrupt governor should be allowed to do this.

The ‘Rats are just afraid of the chance that a Republican might be elected. That’s what it is.

ABC-Obama this morning made the blatant statement, “They’re keeping the one and only black man out of the Senate!”

We're in the last days of the Republic. The Fascists are on the march, and America's enemies are now (or, soon will be) at the helm of state.

Nothing that happens in these days should surprise you.

They no longer teach history (relevant history) in schools today, and they haven't for some time, so at least one whole generation of America has nothing, intellectually, to fall back on (and that, of course, extends to our current economic plight).

The Republic is dead! Long live the Republic!!!

ABC didn’t happen to make the point that the “they” referred to were the Democrats, did they? Silly me. I know the answer.

Have to agree. Whatever corrupt activities Blagojevich has been accused of, this appointment appears to be wholly legal. The Illinois Secretary of State has no discretionary power to withhold his certification of this appointment.

White’s illegal veto has been cited by Senator Reid and it will mean a time consuming amount of litigation, but based upon precedents I expect Burris to eventually assume the vacant position.

Another bad media day for Obama courtesy of his old buddy Blagojevich.

So I gather. I thought it was actually the law, but it looks like that was wrong. Things are getting more interesting by the minute.
