WASHINGTON -- Roland Burris headed to Capitol Hill Tuesday to demand a seat in the 111th Congress, insisting that if he isn't allowed to take the oath of office as the next senator from Illinois, the Senate could have a lawsuit on its hands.
Participating in the theatrics, Burris was greeted by Sergeant at Arms Terrance Gainer, a door-keeper and an official from Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid's office before going to the appointment desk on the third floor and to the secretary of the Senate. There, his credentials were denied.
Burris was appointed by Illinois Gov. Rod Blagojevich, who was arrested last month and accused of trying to sell the vacated U.S. Senate seat previously held by President-elect Barack Obama.

Burris may have accepted the appointment from a corrupt governor, but since when has Illinois had a governor that wasn’t corrupt. All the Illinois politicians look like a bunch of crooks.
Burris is more qualified to be a Senator than Obama was, or any of the people that Obama and Reid have pushed.

Except that White is violating state law. He isn't given discretion as to who he does or does not certify. That isn't his job. Only Reid could respect this.

I suppose Reid looked into what power he does have in this matter but from what I understand, the IL SOS has to certify and Burris by the book does have the seat. Blago is still governor and has the power to make the appointment. Reid can only turn Burris away because of the delay by the IL SOS.
But Reid is playing into Blago’s hands by turning Burris away.
As a matter of professional courtesy, Burris could offer a spot in his Mausoleum to Sheetz Byrd. That way they would have eternity to reconcile.
Burris may be more qualified to be a Senator than Obama was (who isn’t?) but to accept such an appointment under such a heavy vail of state governmental corruption associates Burris as willingly complicit in such corruption.
Simple... Because they are opposing Al Franken being seated.
What a joke this country has become....economically, politically and morally.
And, I think Harry and the other Democrat senators should pick up that tab.
But there is no one in the Illinois government who is not corrupt. The fact is, the Illinois legislature passed on the opportunity to get rid of Blagovitch and hold a special election because they were afraid that a Republican might win the special election. They can’t hold a special election among Democrats only. If they nullify this appointment, they will be forced to nullify all laws and executive orders that Blago has signed since the investigation began.
Harry Reid has no authority to tell him not to make an appointment. Harry Reid had no authority to tell Blago who to appoint, either. Reid is as corrupt as Blago.
And the State of Illinois complied with that provisio in the 17th Amendment by passing 10 ILCS 5/25-8 (see post 51). Burris will win, unless he’s playing for something else.
Burris isn't playing for anything else. Blagojevich is playing this precisely by the book. From an AP article yesterday:
The second-ranking Democrat, Illinois Sen. Dick Durbin, acknowledged that his Blagojevich has the state constitutional authority to fill the vacancy. “The Senate of the United States has the U.S. constitutional responsibility to decide if Mr. Burris was chosen in a proper manner and that is what we’re going to do,” Durbin said.gretawire.foxnews.com/2009/01/05/
Durbin opens his mouth again, but this time he tells the truth. The issue now is, how will Reid, et al get even?

Perhaps Blago was trying to “sell the seat” in order to find out which candidate was the clean one?
If I’m his lawyer, I’d add that to any defense if he is ever arrested for his non-crime.
