House Speaker Nancy Pelosi plans to re-write House rules today to ensure that the Republican minority is unable to have any influence on legislation. Pelosis proposals are so draconian, and will so polarize the Capitol, that any thought President-elect Obama has of bipartisan cooperation will be rendered impossible before he even takes office.
Pelosis rule changes -- which may be voted on today -- will reverse the fairness rules that were written around Newt Gingrichs Contract with America.
In reaction, the House Republican leadership is sending a letter today to Pelosi to object to changes to House Rules this week that would bar Republicans from offering alternative bills, amendments to Democrat bills or even the guarantee of open debate accessible by motions to recommit for any piece of legislation during the entire 111th Congress. These procedural abuses, as outlined in the below letter obtained by HUMAN EVENTS, would also include the repeal of six-year limit for committee chairmen and other House Rules reform measures enacted in 1995 as part of the Contract with America.

Hussein and his brownshirts are in control now, folks.
The Constitution is a mere scrap of paper to them—and it will be used or abused, as long as their power is increased it makes no bit of difference.
The question to Hussein and his lapdogs will not be “Is this right, fair, and just?” The question will be “Does this increase our power?” If the answer to the second query is “yes”, the action will be forthcoming.
I look at things that way. Let the Dims and the neo-cons drive this country, and probably human civilization, into the ground. At some point humanity will wake up, even if it takes a trip back to the stone age.
I'm to the point where I feel that's the only option left. I almost voted for Obama for that reason. The sooner everything falls apart the sooner it can get fixed.
LOL
“[A]ny thought President-elect Obama has of bipartisan cooperation will be rendered impossible”
Bipartisan? With McCain and the other “rinos” waiting to join the libs... keep dreaming.
The third step will not happen; the monies Hussein is raking in from places like Gaza (Iranian laundered? Who knows) and other foreign lands will keep him flush enough to buy Congressional seats for liberals who tow his line.
Look at the travesty happening in Minnesota.
You watch, my friend, in 2010, the number of Democrats who will “spring up” in safe Republican districts—Democrats who somehow have been able to raise tons of money and whom Hussein will campaign for and endorse.
The man is a money machine, and no one asks or cares how he gets it. Remember the stories of donors named “skngv” who live in a town called “Love”? Just obvious scams to put illegal funds in his hands. No one cared during Campaign ‘08 and no one will care now that he has seized power.
We’re gettin’ ready for something that smells a bit like Hugo Chavez NOW. It’ll reek of Stalin in about 6 years. And we won’t be able to wash that odor off.
Think about it: you’ve got an academia (teaching our college and high school kids) and a national press who are enamored with this inexperienced kid; he’ll receive no real criticism from them...you’ve got a middle class being squeezed who will get a pittance rebate check as a “gift”...you’ve got a Republican party that is about as milquetoast as any in a generation or more...Hussein & Co. are setting themselves up for an extended rule.
I hope I’m wrong, but that is the direction I see us going.
They're in on it. As usual.
Not for a while. The Dems are feeling very powerful now. Unless the MSM makes a cry of unfairness they will not do anything about this.
They don't care how they got the advantage and will go along with this.
bttt
Hmm. I may come to enjoy my constitutional activism.
I don’t even hear any republicans saying that there’s a PROBLEM with the government now. Don’t you know that criticizing the rats now is RACISM and punishable by proscription or death?
Surely these people can't be that dumb!
I think they got to Gramm, JC Watts, and Tancredo somehow... they all resigned in their prime.
Interesting thought, but the Dems have numbers and discipline to push through the legislation they want. Switchover's might occur, but I think those would do more with enhancing chances of re-election in 2010.
I also concur that the Dems are power drunk and lust for blood from the remaining GOP house members. My original point was that if the GOP leadership prior to 2006 had displayed the backbone to actually push for a conservative agenda and demanded discipline and loyalty from the rank and file house members, we may not have suffered the losses we have incurred over the last two elections.
It is time that fascist and Pelosi become one word.
I totally agree with you, but some folks on FR are still living in La La Land.
Hi, WVNan! I think it’s a really good idea for them to walk out at the most strategically important point in time—great idea.
Republicans 2006-2008: outwitted, outlasted, outplayed
Democrats 2009: Sole Survivor
For shame!
Here’s my problem with your thinking - our children and grandchildren deserve a chance.
I’m 39. I guess I am from generation x? My parents were part of the free love generation. They had me when they were 18. They divorced when I was 6 months old. My grandparents raised me. They were from the Depression era. They gave me a great life. They taught me valuable lessons. One thing they taught me was that you don’t give up when it seems like you’ve been licked.
We are limited only by the extent of our ingenuity. Wake up, man!
Um, ...
If the only ones showing up are Democrats, you better believe they’re going to blame it on Republicans, even if there aren’t any there.
