Pelosi Erases Gingrich's Long-Standing Fairness Rules
Human Events ^ | 5 January 2009 | Connie Hair

Posted on 01/05/2009 7:54:23 AM PST by Clinton's a liar

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi plans to re-write House rules today to ensure that the Republican minority is unable to have any influence on legislation. Pelosi’s proposals are so draconian, and will so polarize the Capitol, that any thought President-elect Obama has of bipartisan cooperation will be rendered impossible before he even takes office.

Pelosi’s rule changes -- which may be voted on today -- will reverse the fairness rules that were written around Newt Gingrich’s “Contract with America.”

In reaction, the House Republican leadership is sending a letter today to Pelosi to object to changes to House Rules this week that would bar Republicans from offering alternative bills, amendments to Democrat bills or even the guarantee of open debate accessible by motions to recommit for any piece of legislation during the entire 111th Congress. These procedural abuses, as outlined in the below letter obtained by HUMAN EVENTS, would also include the repeal of six-year limit for committee chairmen and other House Rules reform measures enacted in 1995 as part of the Contract with America.

F*** bipartisanship. See where it gets you. Republicans don’t need to work with Democrats. They need to do what they should have done along along: fight Democrats.

” That’s why Republicans need to run an ex-Democrat for President next time. They know how to deal with them. Think....Reagan.

Well, Reagan’s out (I know you were citing him as an example, but I couldn’t resist). Who did you have in mind? Zell Miller is the only one I think we might be able to sway, and he’s getting up there. I guess Phil Gramm used to be a ‘Rat, but I think he’s pretty much radioactive after the last election.”

Anyone have any suggestions? Are there any good conservative statesmen who used to be Democrats?

I have to agree with you. Dumbed down America (a product of our ed system) has now decided they want SOCIALISM. Pat Robertson said God told him that is what is coming.

I could see a sizaeble number of republicans switching parties in order to be able to affect legislation. With a large number of Republican switches, the conservative blue dog Dem’s would have enough numbers to challenge Pelosi’s leadership.

The RHINO's in Washington will most likely roll over and accept what ever Pelosi and Democrats want.

Not a bad strategy. The very name “Republican” has become such an obscene term, that the GOP is damaged beyond repair.

We either start a new party under a new name, or we beat them at their own game. Join their party and rip them apart from the inside. How else did the RINOs get filtered into this party? Think about all the damage they have done among us.

I wouldn’t think that she should expect many pubs to sign on to their stimulus package. Or any other legislation for that matter.

Isn’t this basically what Hitler did? Run everyone except the Nazi’s out of government?

It's exactly what any dictator does before he takes complete control. I'm really not liking what I'm seeing. I think zero plans to move fast. He's got a big a plan and little time to do it. We are in a deep pile of you know what now.

“Well if they actually do this, I’ll give them credit for having the balls to do what the Republican’s couldn’t when they had the chance.”

Why would the Republicans want to stop the Democrats from proposing amendments or alternative legislation? Isn’t that what representation in Congress is all about? No point in complaining about dictatorial Democratic rule, when you would like to see the Republicans do the same thing.

Dumb Americans DIDN'T EVEN KNOW THAT DEMOCRATS HOLD CONGRESS.

Do you ever listen to Hannity's 'Man in the street' interviews? It's terrifying. There are vast legions of idiots walking around out there who have no understanding of American government, have no idea at all of what's going on in the world around them, of what the issues are, but they all know that they enthusiastically voted for Obama. When asked why, they invariably give vague, dissembling answers that make it clear that they don't know that, either.

If even one of them would offer some intelligent argument, I could almost respect that. Not agree with it of course, but it'd show that some of them are at least trying to think. But they never do.

Here I thought it was “No representation with taxation”, at least for the past 16 years or so.

Maybe it’s always been that way - the congress-critters doing whatever they want (It’s the best interest of my constituents), and whatever will get them the most money without regard for what the public they represent REALLY want.

I really believe that the majority are liars, crooks and thieves.

Nope. There will be no fighting for our lives. Most conservatives are content to let the liberals make a mess of things and think that America will somehow learn a lesson from it all and wake up. What those conservatives don’t or won’t realize is that the snowball rolling downhill will soon become an avalanche headed straight for them. In teaching America a lesson, they’re going to be “schooled” themselves.

Germany is what comes to mind.............

It is over for America - I have convinced myself to stop reading the morning newspaper in 2009 (first time in 50+ years).

“Nope. There will be no fighting for our lives. Most conservatives are content “

As in sheeple. Pacifists. Bipartisanship. I don’t think the common family has the will to fight. As long as they have 2 cars, a house in the burbs, a job, and food on the table they are unwilling to make any sacrifices that might inconvenience them. They think that someone else always fights for them. Unfortunately you are more than correct.

Facism always dominates the pacifist first.

Honestly this shouldn't be a surprise. She's a long-time member of the “Progressive Caucus”, “or, as I call it, the Congressional Red Army Caucus” with her pal Bernie Saunders.
Their main stated goal is to work within the Democratic Party and remove the stigma attached to “socialism” in the eyes of most Americans.
Remember the song on their site called “Red Revolution” sung to the tune of “Red Robin”.

Red Revolution
“When the Red Revolution
Brings Its Solution
Along, Along

“There'll be no more lootin’
When we start shootin’
The Wall Street throng

“Wake up you proletarians
Don't act like seminarians
Expropriate Barbarians
Build a Worker's Republic

Exploitation and Degradation
You Won't Find Here
Surplus Value and Capital Will Disappear

I'm just a Red again,
Saying what I've said again,
When the Red Revolution…da, da, da, da
Brings Its Solution…da, da, da, da, da
A long”
