I could see a sizaeble number of republicans switching parties in order to be able to affect legislation. With a large number of Republican switches, the conservative blue dog Dem’s would have enough numbers to challenge Pelosi’s leadership.

Not a bad strategy. The very name “Republican” has become such an obscene term, that the GOP is damaged beyond repair.

We either start a new party under a new name, or we beat them at their own game. Join their party and rip them apart from the inside. How else did the RINOs get filtered into this party? Think about all the damage they have done among us.

Many talk radio hosts (Medved for starters) say there never can be a third party and win anything and of course I remember throwing my once-in-a-life-time vote for the sucking sound guy (so yes, I helped put Baba Klintoon in office). But, Lieberman is an independent, Sanders is a Socialist, and yet they caucus with RATS which gave the RATS the control of the Senate. Why can't conservatives start a third party and promise to caucus with the GOP? Couldn't that regain control of the Senate? Couldn't some of the Blue Dog RATS caucus with GOP? I guess I am naive, or don't understand how it works in DC (I suspect the latter).

Interesting thought, but the Dems have numbers and discipline to push through the legislation they want. Switchover's might occur, but I think those would do more with enhancing chances of re-election in 2010.

I also concur that the Dems are power drunk and lust for blood from the remaining GOP house members. My original point was that if the GOP leadership prior to 2006 had displayed the backbone to actually push for a conservative agenda and demanded discipline and loyalty from the rank and file house members, we may not have suffered the losses we have incurred over the last two elections.
