With about three months to go in the winter of 2008-09, Madison could end up with the average total amount of snow for a season already before the calendar is flipped to the new year.
With 42.9 inches already in November and December, the 1-3 inches expected on Tuesday could push the snowfall total up to the average 45 inches that normally falls in any given winter in these parts, with the brunt of winter still to come.
The record snowfall in December is now at 38.6 inches, breaking the previous December mark of 35 inches set in 2000 as well as the previous monthly mark of 37 inches that fell in February 1994.

We associate snow with somewhat warm winters. Snow is off maybe 30% so far this winter, but temperaures are what we expect from the Old Time Alaskan Winter.
I spent a lot of time over the past half century in circumstances such as you find appalling to contemplate.
"What is there to do?", you wonder. Myself, I was always partial to crib.
And don't be so quick to discount the pleasures of 'intimate activities'.
Got me through more than a few winters!
—and I forgot to mention, tell everybody else in California to stay away, too-—
I think u accurately displayed the attitude you mentioned. glad you cleared that up people from wisconson are A-holes.

Walking the dogs on a clear, crisp night. A fresh blanket of snow on the ground and stars so close, you can practically reach up and touch them! *SIGH*
That’s why I live here. :)
But, it certainly doesn’t appeal to everyone. And I’ve lived in southern CA, San Diego. On the ocean. Sunny and 72 every d@mn day. Day after day after day! For TWO YEARS! Bor-ing! LOL!
I ADORE our Four Seasons. I live seasonally and guess what? Come the Merry Month of May and beyond you can even have sex outside before the mosquitoes get too bad. No one is trapped in their homes for weeks on end up here unless they’re lazy or infirm. And we cajole the lazy into going ice fishing with us, and help the infirm to get around inthe winter months. ;)
“...glad you cleared that up people from Wisconsin are A-holes.”
Well, I take back what I posted to you then. :)
People who don’t have winter don’t really understand. There’s plenty to do in the winter in Wisconsin. There’s sledding, shoveling, skating, shoveling, skiing, shoveling, snowmobiling, shoveling, hockey, shoveling, building snow forts, shoveling... well, you get the picture.
Seriously, once you’re used to the cold, it’s fun to go out in the snow and ski or snowshoe or sled. No one needs to stay indoors all winter... somebody’s got to shovel.
My apologies.
It’s cool. I know CA Freepers are in a world of hurt these days. Wisconsin isn’t much better off, though we don’t have the debt load you do...yet!
Thanks again, Democrats & Republican RINOs!
