Hello everyone,

Happy Christmas to all.

To be truthful, my favorite Christmas treat is a good single barrel Bourbon.

I hope to be at the puter a bit on Christmas Eve. Hope to talk to many of you then.

It’s really cold here today, everyone is mostly present or accounted for, good fire going and looking forward to the celebration.

Hope all is well with you and yours.

Regards,
AR

Invisible Man
Looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross. —Hebrews 12:2

As a boy, I was fascinated by the book The Invisible Man. The main character played an elaborate game of hide-and-seek, staying just out of reach of mere mortals “cursed” with a visible nature. To have a physical presence, he wore clothes and wrapped his face in bandages. When it was time to escape, he simply removed everything and disappeared.

I wonder if we have similar thoughts about our unseen God. We feel He is beyond our reach and express it in song with one of my favorite hymns:

Immortal, invisible, God only wise,
In light inaccessible
Hid from our eyes.

Yet, while declaring the wonder of God, the hymn speaks of a God who is not just invisible:

All praise we would render—O help us to see
’Tis only the splendor of light hideth Thee!

We perceive that God is distant, far off, inaccessible, and hidden. But we need a God who is accessible, and we wonder how to have a meaningful relationship with Him.

We will never fully comprehend what God is like. Yet He Himself is accessible to us. In part, that is why Jesus came—to “show us the Father” (John 14:8-11) and to bring us close to Him, because “He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation” (Col. 1:15).

Our God is an invisible God, beyond our limited comprehension. Thankfully, Jesus came to show us how near to us He really is.

God’s presence with us is His greatest present to us.

TO THE

(where our troops, allies and their families can refresh themselves)

Good morning, Everyone. Good morning

Thank you, Lauren , for preparing the Canteen for today’s activities. Let's see....my favorite? A cross between my fudge and my mom's homemade coconut cake.

Now for our local DC Metroland weather report

~ Today.... Partly sunny. Highs in the upper 30s. Northwest winds around 5 mph...increasing to south 10 to 15 mph this afternoon.

~ Tonight.... Mostly cloudy. A slight chance of rain and freezing rain after midnight. Lows in the lower 30s. South winds 10 to 15 mph. Chance of precipitation 20 percent.

PRAISE THE LORD....he heard my whining! Temps will back into the 40s-50s!

Yeah, I know Ma told me not to whine about the cold but I just gotta. Like I said, if I liked these frigid temps, I'd move north! So, yeah, I'm whining....just don't tell Ma. hehe

BTW, did y'all see the tree Ma put up? Look at this....an Alaskan Christmas tradition, I guess.......

Time for me to make my rounds. But, you stay right where you are. Keep your eyes on your monitor. Cause...............I'll be bock

Now remember, the Canteen is

So, come on in and sit for a while. There's always plenty of coffee, pancakes, conversation, silliness, and plain old BS

REMEMBER THEM

DEFENDERS OF FREEDOM

FR CANTEEN MISSION STATEMENT

Showing support and boosting the morale of our military and our allied military and the family members of the above. Honoring those who have served before.

These are lovely for a cookie exchange or an afternoon tea.

Viennese Jam Cakes

3/4 cups cold unsalted butter cut into pieces
1/4 cup white granulated sugar
1 tablespoon sour cream
1 teaspoon vanilla
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 cups flour

Raspberry Jam
Confectioner’s Sugar for dusting

Preheatoven to 350 degrees F.

In food processor chop butter with sugar until size of small peas. (4-5 pulses)

Add sour cream, vanilla, and salt. Blend just to combine about 8 pulses. Sprinkle in flour and blend just until wet granular crumbs form, about 15 seconds.

Press generous tablespoon into wells of miniature muffin tins. (Should make 24.)

Bake about 22 minutes, just until golden. Using handle end of
wooden spoon, make small indentation in center of each cake. Fill each with about 1/2 teaspoon raspberry jam. Cool in pan for 10 minutes and then turn out onto cooling rack to cool.

To freeze for later servving, wrap them well and freeze. Defrost them before dusting with confectioner’s sugar.

To serve, dust with confectioner’s sugar.

USS Pueblo

They were released 40 years ago today.

The USS PUEBLO was a U. S. Navy vessel sent on an intelligence mission off the coast of North Korea. On January 23, 1968, the USS PUEBLO was attacked by North Korean naval vessels and MiG jets. One man was killed and several were wounded. The Eighty-two surviving crew members were captured and held prisoner for 11 months. The pages on this site tell the story of the Pueblo Incident and present the USS PUEBLO Veteran's Association.

On December 23rd, 11 months to the day of their capture, the crew of the PUEBLO walked, one every 15 seconds, across the Bridge of no Return to freedom and the opportunity to live the rest of their lives. But, only part of the Pueblo incident was over for them.
