Magnetic Field Hole Could Cripple Communications
FoxNews.com ^ | Thursday, December 18, 2008 | Andrea Thompson

Scientists have found two large leaks in Earth's magnetosphere, the region around our planet that shields us from severe solar storms.

The leaks are defying many of scientists' previous ideas on how the interaction between Earth's magnetosphere and solar wind occurs: The leaks are in an unexpected location, let in solar particles in faster than expected and the whole interaction works in a manner that is completely the opposite of what scientists had thought.

The findings have implications for how solar storms affect the our planet. Serious storms, which involved charged particles spewing from the sun, can disable satellites and even disrupt power grids on Earth.

It is expected to peak around 2012, bringing lots of sunspots, flares and coronal mass ejections (CMEs). CMEs can interact with the Earth's magnetosphere, causing problems for satellites, communications, and power grids.

Hmmmm, where else has that 2012 date been mentioned?

Could it be that the magnetic poles are getting set to reverse? It’s happened many times before. Something like that sure would explain a lot in terms of “global climate change”.

Oh No!!! Man-made global warming has affected the solar cycle while simultaneously blowing these massive holes in our magnetic field!!!!

Algore...save us!!!!!

Cool! In 2012 we’ll be able to microwave food by just leaving it on the doorstep for a few minutes.

We've had a record year of NO sunspots in 2008. You're suggesting a massive increase on solar activity that just isn't evident in the current conditions on the sun. As it stands, it seems more likely that we'll have a protracted period of inactivity on the sun and a potential ice age underway.

I know, I don’t believe the claptrap about the Aztec Calendar (or was in Inca?) but that date keeps cropping up. Weird.
I DID see an interesting National Geographic show the other day on the Magnetosphere. They said we were going into a period before a pole switch. The repercussions didn’t sound very pleasant, but since it happens fairly regularly (in geological terms) and they can’t tie any mass extinctions to the phenomena, I’m not too worried.

The Sun operates on an 11-year cycle, alternating between active and quiet periods. We are currently in a quiet period, with few sunspots on the sun’s surface and fewer solar flares, though the next cycle of activity has begun.

To be successful you have to link it to something that man has done. Then build a fake market and industry using magnetic credits to make a fat profit.
It is probably electricities fault. Since it is electro-magnetic in nature, the massive flow of electrons through the world has caused a rift in the magnetic shield of earth. We must lobby the world governments to force taxes and non-electric means of powering our nations. Of course we would own all the companies that provide such services. Although not up front mind you. Don’t forget. You need to hypnotize the media with psuedo scientific sounding jargon and say things like “The world has a magnetic fever”

I'm quite aware of the 11 year cycle. Cycle 24 should be well underway. A few spots of cycle 24 polarity have appeared briefly and faded quickly. We should have an average of around 100 sunspots present. Except for Nov 2008 when we had an average of 6.7 sunspots for the month, the sun has been completely blank in 2008.

YOU ARE RIGHT!!!

Get rid of all the microwaves, cell phones, am radio (especially talk radio-—where is the fairness doctrine when you need it???)

We got this problem solved, oh I forgot, we must pour 100’s of billions of money toward this, please contribute to the algorater society.

Thank you for your support!!!!
