Rep. Pete King (R-N.Y.) is preparing a run at Sen. Hillary Rodham Clintons (D) seat in 2010, his office confirmed Tuesday.
Clinton has been designated as President-elect Obamas secretary of state and will be replaced by a Democrat appointed by New York Gov. David Paterson (D).
But the last two years of Clintons second term will be up in 2010, with a full term available in 2012.
King is one of just three GOPers in the New York congressional delegation to survive Novembers elections and has a good fundraising start on the race, having banked $1.2 million as of late November.
King actually increased his cash on hand while successfully seeking reelection. He raised more than $280,000 between Oct. 16 and Nov. 24 a virtually unmatched total for the period surrounding Election Day.

Under the right circumstances (Paterson appoints a lemon, Obama becomes unpopular), King would have a shot.
King is a Vet and very solid on National Security and the War on Terror. He p*ssed off CAIR majorly. Way to go!
Pete King wouldn’t be the worst thing that ever happened..
He voted against the Toons’ impeachment.
King would be a moderately strong candidate, but if he runs we’ll likely lose King’s Democrat-leaning US House seat.
He would lose.
What price has Hillary set on this job?
Gore and Obama won the district. But Bush did in 2004. It’s no certain loss.
bttt
He’s good on some things. Border security I believe. Seems to be a typical NY RINO on others.
I’d accept him for NY.
I’m pretty sure threads on Free Republic appear forever in the order they were posted and can’t be bumped to the top. ;) ?
unless you set your prefferences to “most active”
lol they can always be bookmarked tho!
Well, looks like he’ll be running against Fran Dresher then.
bttt!
I see.
I should stop responding to ancient threads for fun then huh? Must bother people. ;)
“He would lose.”
... as would any other Republican candidate there (with the possible exception of Rudy).
New York is all-but a one-party state now. Pubbies have about as much chance at statewide office in New York as they do in Massachusetts....

Depends on the climate. It’s still Pro-DEM we might as well all move to the mountains of Idaho or something.
Gotta have HOPE that their will be a CHANGE.
I’m not thrilled with Peter King, but New York could have a worse Senator than him.
