Obama: Gun owners do not need to stock up

As gun sales shoot up around the country, President-elect Barack Obama said Sunday that gun-owning Americans do not need to rush out and stock up before he is sworn in next month.
...
But National Rifle Association spokesman Andrew Arulanandam said it's not Obama's words but his legislative track record that has gun-buyers flocking to the stores.
...
"Anyone who thinks they need to rush out and buy a firearm clearly has not been paying attention to how quickly we make progress on this issue. We don't think these are first-time buyers. We think they are people who already have more than enough guns at their homes to protect themselves and are buying more."

“We don’t think these are first-time buyers. We think they are people who already have more than enough guns at their homes to protect themselves and are buying more.”
And who does Obama think he is to tell me how many I should have or if I need MORE?
This guy is bad news all the way around.

Both are votes of no confidence.
I also note that sales of Spam and similar products are up sharply.

I recently heard a report on weapon sales.
The report stated that in October and November of 2007 there were about 800,000 and 1,000,000 million FBI checks for NEW gun purchases. In 2008 for the same months the numbers were 1 million and 1.5 million.

The hubris behind that statement, though not unexpected, is mind-boggling.

I hadnt owned a fire arm in over 35 years. Obamas comments about a national police force sent chills down my spine. Recently purchased a 12 ga pump. BTW- the end of the barrel has a little part that can be unscrewed and removed from the inside of the barrel. Its about 3 inches long. Anyone know what or why or the purpose. Don't believe a word when somebody says its for the silencer. Its for a choke, different types for different shot patterns.

"Lawful gun owners have nothing to fear. ~~~ I think people can take me at my word." I don't believe a word this SOB says, and I'm not going to start now. If anyone needed a green light, the fact that he raised an issue means it is on the table.

If I unscrew it a little it only makes the barrel a little longer. It doesn’t restrict or widen the barrel in any way.
Also I can remove the part completly from the barrel.
Duh, I’ll check the booklet that came with it.

it’s a choke to reduce spread.

Maybe it allows for a choke to be added as this part doesn’t restict or enlarge the opening.

Thanks. My friend has a similar weapon and his does have this. I thought it might be to add a flash surpressor.
Thanks again.

bump
For home defense, remove that choke - you want as wide as possible.

Barack Obama said Sunday that gun-owning Americans do not need to rush out and stock up before he is sworn in next month. The very fact he said that says they should. Because if he truly didn't care how many or what kinds of guns Americans have, there would have been no need for him even to make such a statement in the first place.

BTW- the end of the barrel has a little part that can be unscrewed and removed from the inside of the barrel. Its about 3 inches long. That is the "choke". It controls the grouping of the pellets as they leave the muzzle. A tight choke keeps the pattern smaller for a longer distance. That's good for hunting flying birds and rabbits at a long distance. Removing the choke makes the pattern spread faster. Better for close engagement (home protection) or firing slugs (big game e.g. deer/elk/moose).
