I thought we should have a link to post any and all updates.
“I don’t believe that the two concepts are incompatible”
Exactly so. “Republic” literally means a government by the people, and “democracy” literally means rule by the people. Everyone gets all in a huff about the distinction between the two, but really it’s all about conotations. Remember, commies use the term republic all the time. Heck, Rome under the rule of the Senate called itself a republic. To the Founders, “democracy” meant “majority rule,” whereas “republic” probably meant some form of “mixed government” (in the Aristotlean sense). The words need not mean as much to us. In fact, I’d argue that in general usage they mean pretty much the same thing. That’s one reason why I constantly hear our government refered to as a “democratic republic.”
I copied your post into the comments of this page, to keep track of them. I feel bad that I didn’t take the time to dig into Blackstone on the matter for the article!

Feel free to add any further comments.
It means the reporter is a liberal obama worshipping
dumba$$ !
marked for later~~~
Leo is supposed to be on the Al Huey show on line at FoxTalk 1360. I can’t locate a way to get on to listen. Perhaps others can. :)
I may have missed it in this humongous thread, BUT - will we get a reason from SCOTUS if they decide not to pursue the Donofrio case any further? Or can they just throw it out willy-nilly with no explanation?
Leo said they do not have to give an opinion with a denial if they do deny the case. He also said that with all the public awareness of this Constitutional issue that if the Justices deny the case he thinks they would give an opinion as to why.
thanks!
I guess the next question would be that if this citizenship slash birthcertificate issue gets thrown out (with or without reason provided), would that mean that any future lawsuits based on this and resulting from legislation that he signs could also be thrown out?

All depends on what the opinion would be, if the Justices give one. I believe the SCOTUS will hear Leo Donofrio’s case but that remains to be seen. I have to trust the Justices will uphold the Constituton.
Thanks, STT. I guess we’ll have to sit tight till Monday. I want to believe the same thing you do, but I hate to say that I’m not very optimistic about it.

Looks like Monday is the day.
After further analysis of the comments attributed to Blackstone, one can see that he is observing the two criteria for being a "natural born subject," of 1. birth within the nation and, 2. birth citizenship passed from one's father's citizenship, within English law.
However, as I see it, he does not attempt to induce a broad principle in the event of one meeting both standards. It would seem that the scribes of English law saw these two principles of natural law and deduced each to be allowable particulary for English law.
However, Blackstone did observe the problem where these two criteria of citizenship conflict (as did Jesus Christ) that one "cannot owe two such allegiances, or serve two masters, at once."
It would be interesting, whether meritorious or not to American Constitutional law, to know how English law treated allegiance and "natural born" allegiance when a child of a citizen/subject of another nation was born in the lands of the English crown.
Great Update on Leo’s web site about Chester Author!

Interesting and highly relevant historical research.
Thank you for all you are doing. Especially your service to our country! I just sent you a private FR email with some addresses. God Bless you!
ummmm....
A republic is governed by rule of law. Especially when that law protects the minority against the wishes of the majority.
Politics by function always has reelection in mind, and therefore caters to the majority.
Should know within hours. Fingers crossed.
