An Ugly Attack on Mormons
The easiest targets for an organized campaign against religious freedom of conscience.
By Jonah Goldberg
Did you catch the political ad in which two Jews ring the doorbell of a nice working-class family? They barge in and rifle through the wifes purse and then the mans wallet for any cash. Cackling, they smash the daughters piggy bank and pinch every penny. We need it for the Wall Street bailout! they exclaim.
No? Maybe you saw the one with the two swarthy Muslims who knock on the door of a nice Jewish family and then blow themselves up?
No? Well, then surely you saw the TV ad in which two smarmy Mormon missionaries knock on the door of an attractive lesbian couple. Hi, were from the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints! says the blond one with a toothy smile. Were here to take away your rights. The Mormon zealots yank the couples wedding rings from their fingers and then tear up their marriage license.
As the thugs leave, one says to the other, That was too easy. His smirking comrade replies, Yeah, what should we ban next? The voice-over implores viewers: Say no to a church taking over your government.
Obviously, the first two ads are fictional because no one would dare run such anti-Semitic or anti-Muslim attacks.
The third ad, however, was real. It was broadcast throughout California on Election Day as part of the effort to rally opposition to Proposition 8, the initiative that successfully repealed the right to same-sex marriage in the state.
What was the reaction to the ad? Widespread condemnation? Scorn? Rebuke? Tepid criticism?
Nope.
The Los Angeles Times, a principled opponent of Proposition 8, ran an editorial lamenting that the hard-hitting commercial was too little, too late.

My biggest concern, AuntB, is their salvation. I’m sorry you feel so badly against me but I am not trying to ‘bash’ Mormons. Their beliefs are not traditional Christian beliefs and because of that I fear for their salvation. They can call themselves Christian all they want, but unless they have accepted Jesus Christ as their Saviour and obey HIM (not Joseph Smith!) they will not be in heaven with Christ and the saints. THAT, my dear, is what I am most concerned about.
I pray you really DO have a relationship with the living Lord. Since I don’t know you, I can’t judge that and it’s not my job to anyway. That’s between you and Jesus. My problem is the Joseph Smith lies that you have been told. I pray it doesn’t keep you out of heaven. I think I’ve made my beliefs about the heresies of Mormonism clear enough. Others here have done the same. You just don’t want to hear them or believe them. I love you no matter what religion you are.
Nope, not a problem for me.
Amen, Colo! Thanks.
Heck; I can't even get him to show the number of the post that a PRIVATE MAIL comes from!
Of course - but they ain't scripture - even to mormons.
Pansies complaining is what this thread is about!
Colo is a former Mormon and knows what they believe. Take it seriously.
I haven’t borne false witness, dear AuntB.
(In my best Al Gore voice: "They're in a LOCKBOX, in the basement at Temple Square!")
They're not posted for you anyway.
And it’s gettin’ UGLY!
You MUST have or no one would accuse you - 'specially a MORMON!
I will never BE a god like Mormons hope to do in their own little paradise with their own spirit wives and spirit babies. But I do have God living within me, the Holy Spirit, and He convicts me of what is truth and what is not.
I have no idea. But in the case of Jesus, HE is the ONLY begotten son of God. There are no others.
The LDS that the cult is "God's church" is tragic and laughable at the same time.
Do you really, really believe that God would have allowed His church to go rudderless for millennium until the town teller of tall tales Joe Smith put stones in his hat, gave conflicting testimony, and "translated" golden plates in "Reformed Egyptian?" (which despite a Herculean effort remains a fictitious fantasy?);
You need to turn that mirror around. Not the black paper side - you need to look right into it, with your soul.
I believe there isn't much time left bud. I think we are near the end. Do you want to bank your eternity on a "church" that has rewritten its scripture when inconsistencies have been found?
Do you want to tie your eternal destiny to a man who stuck his male member into the wives of men who followed him?
My God, please think about what you are doing.
The End of Days will come someday, perhaps soon, perhaps not, but are you willing to take that chance?
Hell is real.
Seek Christ, and Him only. Read the Gospel, and give your heart to Him.
Take care DU. I hope to see you in the dwelling places of Heaven, and we will hug.

Ultimately, all will have the occasion to hear the truth & to accept it of reject it. Those that accept & live it whether here of afterward will receive Celestial glory. Not difficult. Very much along the lines of most Christians who believe that every Muslim, Hindu, etc. will ultimately have to accept Christ as their Savior in order to be saved. We all believe in a God, even the Muslims, but Christians believe that only those that accept Christ will be saved. In other words, the truth.
It's along the same lines for us, only those that accept Christ & all His gospel will receive Celestial glory. Period. Now I'm sure you'll ask me the very same things in the near future & ask me to repeat this all over again as you folks are apt to do. Perhaps I'll just do a cut & paste from here on in.
