Jeb Bush to GOP: Don't Become 'Democrat-Lite'

Sunday, November 30, 2008 4:20 PM

By: David A. Patten

Former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush tells Newsmax that the GOP must broaden its appeal to avoid becoming “the old white-guy party,” and recommends that Republicans create a “shadow government” to engage Democrats on important issues as the incoming Obama administration seeks to enact its agenda.

In a wide-ranging interview with Newsmax, the popular former governor and younger brother of President George W. Bush said the 2008 election was neither “transformational” nor a landslide. For example, he noted that Barack Obama's significant fundraising advantage over John McCain played a key role in Democratic success this year.

Bush urged Republicans not to abandon their core conservative principles in favor of a "Democratic-lite" agenda. Still, he says the GOP does need to do some real soul-searching.

He should have told his brother that in 2000.

Look, once law enforcement officers lie, they need to go down. I am one myself. Should the day ever arrive that I misplace the public’s trust and lie my ass off, I should be hammered to all hell and I would not expect to have misguided supporters.

If you lie about an iffy shoot, you need to be fired.

You don’t need to be doing hard time.

Yeah, you need to suffer the appropriate penalties and not have people crying out for pardons. Especially people with hidden agendas.

Abuse under color of authority is a felony. Felony means prison, not jail. Prison means hard time.

I’m guessing Jeb’s responding to the pundits and elites in the GOP who are trying to convince Republicans that it was the conservative Sarah Palin who ruined John McCain’s chances to become President. Those ‘fiscal conservatives’ believe that if they could just unload all those silly ‘social (religious) conservatives, that they’d draw all those moderate and independent voters everyone was talking about during the campaign.

Tell your brother and Dad!

The Bush family destroyed Reaganism.

Screw em.

Always good to hear from Florida's Pontius Pilate.

I wonder if he's gotten around yet to reading and understanding Article One, Section Two of his state's constitution, that little ol' document he swore to uphold and defend.

SECTION 2. Basic rights.--All natural persons, female and male alike, are equal before the law and have inalienable rights, among which are the right to enjoy and defend life and liberty, to pursue happiness, to be rewarded for industry, and to acquire, possess and protect property; except that the ownership, inheritance, disposition and possession of real property by aliens ineligible for citizenship may be regulated or prohibited by law. No person shall be deprived of any right because of race, religion, national origin, or physical disability.

You Ramos and Campean people are an embarassment...

Glad to be counted as one of those who embarrass you!

Frankly I'm more embarrassed that Bush can speak Spanish better than English, that he supported the amnesty bill, that his good friend Johnny Sutton thought it justice to give amnesty to a known drug importer to keep us safe from border agents protecting our border. I'm more embarrassed that Bush created the senior drug benefit, rushed to bail out wall street, worked with Ted Kennedy on an education bill, did not require FEC to confirm Obama's constitutional eligibility for office, that Bush spent money with abandon, that his daughter's public appearances were devoted to "safe fornication, and that GHW Bush supported Arlen Specter over a true conservative.

Now we can both be embarrassed!

No, No, No!

More big-tent, compassionate-conservative garbage by another semi-conservative.

I for one, am not interested.

We DO NOT need to broaden our appeal, we need to stick to core conservative principles and learn to communicate them.

Took the words out of my mouth.

And we would have if not for Lawton Chiles the rat Governor of Florida in 1994 scaring old people with tales of Jeb stealing their social security, allowing him to narrowly beat Jeb.

Too bad for him his bro ruined his chances of ever being President.

Just think the popular former Governor of Florida? Well liked by conservatives. But his last name might as well be Hitler.

The only mistake Ramos and Campeon made was in not finishing the guy off rather than just shooting him in the butt. Dead men don’t talk, nor lie. You choose to take the word of the drug dealer. I choose to side with the border agents. You have chosen to be on the wrong side of the border.

The title contradicts the quotations.

It means recruiting candidates that look like the population we’re trying to attract to our cause.

He wants to pander like big brother. The Bushes should be kicked out of the GOP, and out of the country to Mexico, where they can run that country further into the ground.

Overspending and pandering are the two biggest problems in the GOP now. The GOP needs to go back to being the party of ideas it was back during the Reagan years and 1994.

No more Bushes.

W and McCain are big time illegal alien fans. One is a terrible president and the other is a loser.
