Unfortunately, the majority of Catholics voted for Obama.
My sister is a “buffet Catholic” also.
When I was brought up, we had a name for “buffet Catholics”: Protestants.
Sad to say but true! This election I thought the church leaders were not as vocal as in the past and I think that’s why Catholics did not worry about it as much.
Bellwether Catholics Sided with Obama - (27 PERCENT) of the U.S. electorate.
For many, experts say, economy trumped abortion concerns.

“On his way to a decisive victory, Barack Obama won a majority of the nation’s Catholic voters, a closely watched swing group that has sided with the winner in nine of the last 10 presidential elections. He won despite the preaching of some conservative bishops that it would be wrong to vote for a candidate who supports abortion rights, as Obama does, and after a years-long effort by Democrats to close their party’s persistent “God gap” with the Republicans among religious voters.
Fifty-four percent of Catholics voted for Obama, to 45 percent for GOP nominee John McCain, according to surveys of voters as they left their polling places. Catholics made up 27 percent of the U.S. electorate.
Pennsylvania was an anomaly, with McCain carrying Catholics 52 percent to 48 percent. A third of the state’s voters were Catholic, according to the exit polls.
not trying to defend them.
...but with their jobs and 401Ks going down the toilet, 52% of Americans voted against the party of the current administration...without doing the research that proves that Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton and the democrat congress caused the bank flop due to their insistance that people with no right to obtain mortgages, obtain mortgages.
this was true for Catholics as well as non Catholics and when the food supply dries up for themselves and their kin, people will ignore non economic reasons for voting.
I suspect the majority of priests did and probably the majority of bishops. The bishops have been pronounced pro lifers and tacit pro abortionists for so long that their credibility is shot. I stopped contributing to our Archbishop's Appeal about 15 years ago.
I don't know how they will regain credibility, but the official anti-Obama pronouncements are surely a start...baby steps, baby steps.
They are known as the Obamolics. Nice bunch, huh?
“Unfortunately, the majority of Catholics voted for Obama.”
These Catholics didn’t realize that the initials of the Messiah are JC, not BHO.
Yes, the majority of Catholics voted for Obama, but not actively practicing Catholics. Catholics who work at their faith did not vote for Obama.
In addition, the majority of single women, Hispanics, Asians, union members, and young people voted for Obama. I believe the majority of farmers voted for him too.
This election, most people voted along their special interest groups and sold out the greater good, the unborn, and the war on terror.
