Apparently they’re involved already. I was just curious why no US military, just FBI.

I was texting him yesterday night as he was directing rescue efforts and had no idea his family was about to be destroyed in a few hours.

I am in tears right now and I want to swear for the creatures who did this to your cousin and his family. I just don't think they have made any swear words bad enough yet in the English language for these beasts.

I am horrified and deeply, deeply sorry for your loss and the others.

My family wishes to express condolences as well. I have not been to India but my wife has visited airline offices in that hotel. No words in any human language can express what the father must be going through. Our prayers offered.

I should not have looked at that photo. My G-d, that could have been any one of us, our parents, our friends, anyone. Just having dinner al fresco at the hotel, and then dead beside the table. I won’t be able to get this image out of my mind. Praying for that poor couple.

I knew about the Liberation Theology of the Maryknolls and Jesuits, just didn’t realize it was going on in India!

I live on the Rogue River towards the (soon to be defunct, DAMMIT!) Savage Rapids Dam.

Wasn’t it great about Sandi winning the Commissioner’s race?

See ya’,

P.S. I used to live on Merlin-Galice Road, three houses up from the green bridge on Stratton Creek. I still go there at least once a week to go mountain biking up Spalding Pond, Taylor Creek, Stratton Creek and Bear Camp.

Maybe the owner of a fishing vessel was weeks ago offered a TON of money for chartering a trip if he would keep his mouth shut. Given some of the money upfront to make sure he kept his mouth shut and to keep him on board (whoops pun). After all, apparently now they don’t have to pay him the rest since his head is severed.

“Mumbai Attack Most Significant Since Sept. 11 Attack on U.S.”

ARTICLE SNIPPET: “While it is too early to know exactly how the Mumbai strikes were planned and executed, one thing seems clear: This attack is the most significant terrorist attack since the Sept. 11 attack against the United States.

The terrorists launched a sophisticated, multi-pronged attack into a city of 18 million residents. This requires planning, training, funding, and detailed reconnaissance. The targets were chosen carefully to achieve maximum effect. The terrorists hit hotels, a train station, a movie house, a residential complex, and a hospital—all soft targets. They also were able to plant bombs in taxis as well as capture a police van, which was then used in a drive-by shooting spree.

The assault teams—there is no other way to describe them—coordinated and synchronized their attacks to overwhelm Mumbai security. The terrorists were able to take a significant number of hostages. They knew where to find foreigners and wealthy Indians—at the five star hotels.”

ARTICLE SNIPPET: “The mode of attack—assault teams launched into the heart of a major city—is already sending chills down the spines of security officials and governments throughout the world.”

WARDEN MESSAGE: MUMBAI RIOTS
U.S. Embassy New Dehli issued the following Warden Message on November 27:

Terrorists attacked two hotels, a railway station, restaurant, hospital, and other locations in Mumbai frequented by Westerners on November 26. Over 100 persons are believed to have been killed, and hundreds injured. Gunfire continues between terrorists and police at several locations in Mumbai. Some of the casualties are foreigners, and media reports indicate Americans have been targeted.

Due to the fluid situation in Mumbai, Americans are urged to defer travel to Mumbai for at least the next 48-72 hours. Those currently in Mumbai are asked to take shelter at their current location and contact family and friends. American citizens in need of assistance related to the terrorist attacks should call the Department of State Mumbai Task Force at 1-888-407-4747 toll-free in the United States and Canada or, for callers in other areas, by calling a regular toll line at 1-202-501-4444. All welfare and whereabouts inquiries regarding Americans who may have been in the Mumbai area can be made by calling the above numbers.

Americans throughout India should be vigilant about security at all times. The Embassy and Consulates are actively assessing the countrywide security environment. Americans are advised to monitor local news reports, vary their routes and times in carrying out daily activities, and consider the level of security present when visiting public places, including religious sites, or hotels, restaurants, entertainment and recreation venues. If unattended packages are spotted, American citizens should immediately exit the area and report the packages to authorities.

For the latest security information, Americans traveling abroad should regularly monitor the Department’s Internet web site at http://travel.state.gov where the current Worldwide Caution, Travel Warnings, and Travel Alerts can be found. Up-to-date information on security can also be obtained by calling 1-888-407-4747 toll free in the United States and Canada or, for callers outside the United States and Canada, a regular toll line at 1-202-501-4444. These numbers are available from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. Eastern Time, Monday through Friday (except U.S. federal holidays). Americans are also encouraged to read the Country Specific Information for India, available on the Embassy’s website at http://newdelhi.usembassy.gov, and also at http://travel.state.gov.

U.S. citizens living or traveling abroad are encouraged to register with the nearest U.S. Embassy or Consulate through the State Department’s travel registration web site at
https://travelregistration.state.gov/ibrs/ui/ so that they can obtain updated information on travel and security. Americans without Internet access may register directly with the nearest U.S. Embassy or Consulate. By registering, American citizens make it easier for the Embassy or Consulate to contact them in case of emergency. For additional information, please refer to “A Safe Trip Abroad” found at http://travel.state.gov.

U.S. citizens may contact the American Citizens Services Unit of the Embassy or the Consulates General for further information:

“The mode of attack—assault teams launched into the heart of a major city—is already sending chills down the spines of security officials and governments throughout the world.”

It should do. How difficult would it have been to carry out a similar attack on any major city close to a waterway?

BTW - I really hope the US authorities and others keep their eyes on MV Alpha as she is steaming towards the Panama Canal. On just never knows....

Assist in the investigation. Did the same thing with the Kobar Towers bombing.

" I really hope the US authorities and others keep their eyes on MV Alpha as she is steaming towards the Panama Canal. "

The Panama Canal? Are you sure you heard right? What's the destination? The Canal is merely a waterway on the opposite side of the planet. That old scow will take about 3 weeks to get there!

Maybe it's on an around-the-world cruise.

And anyway, the Panama Canal is not just any old waterway?
