Mumbai: At least 15 people have been injured in gunfights between two groups in at least three places in Mumbai on Thursday night.
Details are sketchy but it is believed that two gangs fired at each other at outside CST Railway Terminus, Hotel Oberoi and the popular Café Leopold restaurant in Mumbai.
The first shooting took place near the CST police station

The theory that any particular person or nationality was targeted (particularly Americans) has been floated on India’s IBN Live TV news, and it is utterly preposterous.
These Pakistani bastards shot Indians, hotel employees, Westerners, journalists, businessmen, and anyone else who came into their gun sights and grenade radii.
They would have (indeed, *might have*) shot other Pakistanis and other Muslims and even other Islamist sympathizers if they happened to be on the scene.
The timing is also suspicious as it coincides with Thanksgiving. What do they have in store for the Christmas season?
Headlines Today is reporting that the public is unhappy with the slow pace of the authorities in the Hotel .
But nothing major ............
These terrorists definitely came in by water. Then they went straight to the targets, and the targets were easy to get to.

ARTICLE SNIPPET: “All people trapped in Taj Hotel in Mumbai rescued. No hostage-like situation there right now, said Director General of Police (DGP) A N Roy. “There are still guests in the rooms, but we won’t be able to give you a number,” he said.
More bodies have been found inside the hotel, reports suggest.
Four suicide bombers have reportedly been killed in the Taj hotel.
Giving details of the terror attacks which began last night, Roy said terrorists struck in quick succession and in all there was shooting in 12 places.
The Director General of Police made it clear that there would be no negotiations with the terrorists, and “we will very soon get them either alive or dead”
So far five terrorists and 14 police personnel, including officers, have been killed in the operations, Roy said, adding the attacks were “well-planned and executed and unprecedented”.
At the moment, the police chief said he could not say which terror outfit is responsible for the attack.”

There were unconfirmed reports of a hostage-like situation in Cama hospital from where two terrorists in the wee hours tried to escape but were gunned down after a hot chase by the police near the Chowpatty-Girgaum crossing.
Terrorists used heavy machine guns, including AK-47s, and grenades to strike at the city’s most high-profile targets — the hyper-busy CST (formerly VT) rail terminus; the landmark Taj Hotel at the Gateway and the luxury Oberoi Trident at Nariman Point; the domestic airport at Santa Cruz; the Cama and GT hospitals near CST; the Metro Adlabs multiplex and Mazgaon Dockyard — killing at least 101 and sending hundreds of injured to hospital.
Sharp shooters of army, NSG and other security forces moved into Mumbai’s landmark hotels to overwhelm an unspecified number of terrorists still holed out there after several residents were rescued in the wee hours. About 800 personnel from armed forces and NSG were deployed from outside Mumbai and from Delhi
Raging fire and plumes of black smoke were seen billowing from the central dome of the century-old heritage Taj hotel opposite the Gateway of India this morning as firemen struggled to douse them. A guest stranded in one of the rooms said two explosions shook the building.
Smoke was also seen billowing from the new building of the Taj Hotel — which stands next to the old building where terrorists are holed up. While NSG operation was on in the old building, fire brigade personnel were trying to douse fire in the new wing. The top portion of the old Taj building was engulfed in fire after the blasts last night.
Luxury hotel Trident Oberoi was under siege with some terrorists holding some foreigners hostage. A tourist guide was worried about the fate of five Canadians he had put up in that hotel. Earlier in the night, explosions were heard in the hotel.
As last night’s terror incidents spread a sense of panic and fear in the metropolis, schools and colleges were ordered closed and the Bombay Stock Exchange will not function today.”

(Yes, there where a few here at FR who groaned. We would have liked to see the ship held until the situation in Mombai had been cleared up. As it is we have to trust that the Indians did a thorough search.)

They think all the Taj terrorists are gunned down by now but no confirmation.

These were all young looking guys that looked like they could have been college students. Pictures are emerging of the faces of the attack. It remains clear that so far, young muslim guys are the ones to profile.
These kids came in on rubber dingi gemini craft...ruberized boats with outboard engines.

Any land that once belonged to the Dar al-Islam belongs to it by right forever, at least as far as Islamic jihadists are concerned, and so this strange demand is not all that surprising.

An Indian media report said a previously unknown group calling itself the Deccan Mujahideen claimed responsibility for the attacks in e-mails to several media outlets. There was no way to verify that claim.
Magnus Ranstorp, a terrorism specialist with the Swedish National Defense College, said there are “very strong suspicions” that the coordinated Mumbai attacks have a link to al-Qaida....
