Mumbai: At least 15 people have been injured in gunfights between two groups in at least three places in Mumbai on Thursday night.

Details are sketchy but it is believed that two gangs fired at each other at outside CST Railway Terminus, Hotel Oberoi and the popular Café Leopold restaurant in Mumbai.

Here it says it should have arrived Port Qasim on Friday 7th November.

Four vessels MT Al-Salam-II, MT Sulawesi Palm, MV Alpha Afovos and MV Bison Express carrying diesel oil, palm oil, coke and live cattle are due to arrive on Friday.

In your link it states the ship was scheduled to arrive on Friday. So if the report was dated November 7th Friday, would Friday mean November 14th ? You would think a report written on Friday that referred to that Friday would refer to it as today. Confusing to say the least. At any rate, we have confirmation that the reported ship name as spelled by the news reports, was in Qasim Port Pakistan earlier this month. It may have also paid a visit to the Karachi Port under the name MV Alpha Aforovos about 6 weeks ago. And to confuse the situation further a ship named Alpha Afovos (without the MV) has been reported in Vancouver and BUENOS AIRES months ago. My guess is the Alpha Afovos is a completely different ship. We need someone affluent in the maritime naming nomenclature to sort this stuff out. Good luck. Will check in later.

There are a dozen or two MV Alpha (something) ships. The key is the third name Afovos.

I searched both spellings using Google. Aforovos getting only one hit while the Afovos got five.

I think these might be of interest to you. Note locations and dates. I’m not familiar with the abbreviations used so don’t have a complete grasp...

Those were the reports I was looking at. Thanks for the links. Looking at the pages again, it appears that both ships were scheduled to arrive at the Qasim Port which is the sister port to the Karachi Port, apparently. Both in Pakistan. So both ships, MV Alpha Afovos and MV Alpha Aforovos were reported to visit the Port of Qasim in Karachi. Full name of port is PORT MOHAMMAD BIN QASIM. My guess is the Aforovos was a misspelling or typed incorrectly.

I think the article I quoted was written on the Thursday and therefore Friday indicates the next day, ie 7th November.

MV stands for Motor Vessel, just as SS stands for Steam Ship. So in all likelihood MV Alpha Afovos is the same ship as Alpha Afovos.

Afovos is a Greek word (see here)

I will have to go back in the thread to see if I can find where the name of the ship boarded first appeared.

The only mention of the ship Alpha Aforovos I can find is the pdf-file you've already posted. Aforovos appears to be a Spanish and/or Portuguese word.

I would have to agree that Alpha Afovos and Alpha Aforovos seem to be two different ships. Wonder if Lloyds Shipping register is open to the public?
