GOP senators hail Obama's economic team
Senior Senate Republicans who battled former President Clinton on budget and tax issues are applauding the return of his economic team to President-elect Barack Obamas White House.
Sen. Judd Gregg (R-N.H.), a leading congressional Republican on economic issues, lauded Obamas appointment of Timothy Geithner as Treasury Secretary and Lawrence Summers as head of the National Economic Council.
Summers served as Treasury Secretary and Geithner also worked at Treasury during the Clinton administration, when the nation saw booming economic growth. Geithner served under Summers as undersecretary for international development.
I think the choices hes made so far are extraordinarily strong, Gregg told The Hill in an interview. He said the picks would soothe anxious financial markets.
Summers and Geithner, Ive described them as putting Manny Ramirez and David Ortiz in the lineup, said Gregg, drawing an analogy to two sluggers who played together on his favorite baseball team, the Boston Red Sox.
It sends a message to the market that there will be continuity of the effort by Treasury Secretary Henry Paulson and Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke to stabilize the markets, he said.
Sen. Chuck Grassley (Iowa), the senior Republican on the powerful Finance Committee, also praised Obamas first moves.
During the campaign, the kind of change that the president-elect promised was so undefined it made me nervous, Grassley said in a statement. Now that he's appointing familiar faces from the Clinton administration to very high-level positions, I'm less concerned.
Grassley said the return of senior officials from Clintons administration eased his concern about Obamas ability to handle the economic crisis.
Gregg and Grassley also touted Obamas selection of Peter Orszag to head the Office of Management and Budget. Orszag is now director of the Congressional Budget Office.

What is the sound a rutting RINO makes, Alex?
I think I felt a tingle.
It’s all one big political group-grope.
The republic is over...................
Or one big ‘circle j***’.
What the hail?
Well, it’s only fair. Remember all of the praise heaped on Carl Rove and all of Bush’s people?
One thing this election seems to have done is expose virtually every RINO’s true colors. Good grief, no wonder we couldn’t govern even when we had the White House and both houses of congress. Is there a single conservative Republican left in Washington?!?

Economic teams are not good for decision making. Their poor decisions will be masked because of the committee approach.
Bad decisions are made by committee.
Because our President Elect has no executive experience he will have to rely on the economic team recommendations and we will fall further into a bleak economy.
This type of government will help Conservatives in 2010 because these policies will be utter failure.
RINO senators you mean. Face it. We have gone socialist.
The RINO’s are tickled to death.
At the end of the day all of this is OUR fault. We settled, we kept voting for the same ole, we just assumed everything was going to be okay... Its a sad day, one I never thought I’d see. Im in a bad mood. Sorry for the rant.
The GOP deserves to collectively die. Bring on the American Conservative Party!
Well, Iowa and New Hampshire have chimed in with their approval. Somehow reminds me of the primaries. BARF!
Amen! I am beginning to think that the only way to go is a 3rd Party, the GOP is gone!
You're exactly right, and it is this realization that fueled so many vows many months ago to not vote for McCain. That turned out to be irrelevant, but the result is the same. It's time to rebuild the conservative movement, which means we need to vote out virtually all incumbents in the 2010 primaries. If we don't, nothing will change. The parties have become indistinguishable.

Of course Grassley is happy, his subsidies are protected now by the retreads.
