NEW YORK (Hollywood Reporter) - After 12 years at Fox News Channel and four decades in the news business, Washington managing editor Brit Hume will leave "Special Report" and daily journalism for a quieter life, spending time with his grandchildren and following his Christian faith (the anchor still will contribute to the network as a political analyst).

Hume, 65, talked about the demands of the job and how his succession should be handled.

He’s got to be the youngest 65 year old I’ve ever seen. Man I hope I look that good at 65.

On the other hand, Fox is starting to lean left so the timing is good........

maybe thats why he is leaving.

I don't see anybody on the network that can fill his shoes.

Yes, Brit is a unique figure who is not replaceable. I've read speculation that they might return with more than one host. Perhaps with an expanded "panel" segment, which would serve to take pressure on the host.

Megan Kelly comes across as a smart, tough lawyer, but does she have the journalistic chops? Bret Baier has been the Friday host of Special Report, but to me he seems like a kid compared to Brit Hume. Maybe Megan and Bret could make a good tag team.

At the end of the day, your family and faith are all you have.
To Brit- good luck and God bless.

I’m betting that Brett Baier will replace him.

Wow, it sure is. I wonder if he’ll get into some kind of ministry? Not a minister, but in ministry of some kind. It will be interesting to see.

>Fox started turning left some time around Katrina,

Think further my friend. Remember 2004 when FOX called it first for Kerry. Not ABCBSNBCNN. That was the first sign they weren’t the people that we all thought they were supposed to be. Wished FR had it’s on TV network.

Indeed, Brit does not look 65. He must have maintained a solid diet and exercise routine over the years. Of course, a good rug and a TV network makeup job also help. :)

Jim Angle was always a good replacement.

We may finally get some fresh pickings from the political grapevine.

“”Is he really 65? He does not look that old at all.””

Yes, no kidding - I’ve watched him for more decades than I guess I realized, but he still looks great - I love his style, fairness, professionalism and spirit. A rarity in this day and age - one of the last true journalists (back when he did news). In a class with Tony Snow in terms of quality and integrity (what a loss for all of us with his passing).

Honestly, I have seen a lot of people who look great at that age. My in-laws will be 80 next year and they are very active, walk at least a mile a day, etc. They look great!

HeeHee — To a 55 year old, 65 seems like ‘over the hill’ and retirement.

But to a 75 year old, 65 seems like the ‘prime of life’! LOL!

I’ve always been a huge fan, he will be missed terribly in this household.

Same here. Special Report is my only "appointment" TV show.

Some sort of shake-up at Fox? First Colmes, now Hume.

“”On the other hand, Fox is starting to lean left so the timing is good.””

Yet, how ironic that tonight Alan Colmes announced HE’S leaving (H & C, at least) - rather lame and vague in his comments about not really leaving FNC but doing various future “specials”, etc., etc.

I think a previous poster had an interesting point about Brit not wanting to cover/face an Obama presidency - I sense there are a very few (Brit would be one if anyone) who still follow their principles and are more than a little troubled about the seemingly unstoppable direction of the country AND the media - he has his priorities straight and is blessed to have a loving family to whom he’s devoted.

I think it will be Brett as well. He seems almost 'too young'; but he is good; he has 'been there'; and Fox is always reaching out to younger viewers. . .and they are a real challenge as statistically, most are on their I-pods; i-phones and Blackberry's. . .

That said; Fox News will not feel quite the same without Britt and I know his team will miss him greatly. That he will still be 'contributing' is good; and will look forward to those contributions. (I miss E.D. Hill and yes, John Gibson too. . .)

Britt of course, is a different kind of 'mainstay'/anchor at Fox. Do wish him the best; just hate the six o'clock goodbye! (Wondering if he will be writing a book. . .sounds like he has one to write and has 'wisdom' to share.)
