Noise violators in Fort Lupton sentenced to listen to Barry Manilow

FORT LUPTON — Barry Manilow's "I Write the Songs" may begin with the line, "I've been alive forever,'" but for noise ordinance violators, listening to Manilow may feel like forever.

Fort Lupton Municipal Judge Paul Sacco says his novel punishment of forcing noise violators to listen to music they don't like for one hour has cut down on the number of repeat offenders in this northwestern Colorado prairie town.

"How about 3 hours of In-A-Gadda-Da-Vida”."

I'm old enough to have done that, granted I was in a little "haze" at the time though...

Hmmm... Is Afternoon Delight on that list?

What about, We had joy, we had fun, we had seasons in the sun...?

And while I actually like The Carpenters, my hunch is that it would be a good torture device for the kind of people who become noise violators.

>>>i thought it was the “loud pipes save lies” creedo?<<<<

Nonsense, mah boy.....
Those pipes are loud which HAS to mean power!

Here’s how it works:::
Buy a $20,000 HD.
Within a week, purchase a $1000 straight-pipe exhaust system.
Pay a dealership or “lifestyle outlet” $300 to fasten the 6 bolts that holds it on.
Now you go from 60hp stock to a whopping 64hp! (unless you change the jets, but thats a whole other story and $600 more. Besides, changing jets would be an actual improvement and who needs actual performance when you can just as easily give the ILLUSION of performance.)
Rev the engine every couple seconds at stoplights to confirm the system is working properly.
Now you “sound” fast and you “sound” powerful.

See how that works????

A good start, but they need to make sure “Weekend in New England” isn’t on the playlist. It’s actually a very, very good song. Of course, it would probably torture the heck out of the types who routinely violate nose ordinances, so what the heck.

But all other Manilow sucks like a black hole.

Imagine the typical repeat noise violator’s reaction to the Carpenter’s “On Top of the World.”

That would be fun.

I can see throwing in some Neil Diamond, too...but not his early stuff where he was actually something of a rocker. I’m talking “Coming to America” and “Play me” type stuff.

“Would this also apply to ricer cars with coffee can fartpipes?”

And cruisers (ie Harley-type bikes) with straight pipes?

And, for that matter, muscle cars and pickup trucks with really obnoxious “free-flow” exhaust systems, and also commercial trucks with the mufflers removed (so when they hit the Jake Brake it just about blows out the eardrums of anyone within a mile’s radius)?

Nitpick — Manilow did not write “I Write the Songs” (or his two other #1 hits) — IWtS was written by Bruce Johnston during his mid-70s “hiatus” from the Beach Boys.

That having been said, there is a movement afoot to call the one-full-step-up-key-change at the end of a song the “Manilow Modulation,” in honor of the key change that ends “Mandy,” “Looks Like We Made It,” and any number of other Manilow songs.
