Government warns of "catastrophic" U.S. quake (FEMA & the New Madrid Seismic Zone)

KANSAS CITY, Missouri (Reuters) – People in a vast seismic zone in the southern and midwestern United States would face catastrophic damage if a major earthquake struck there and should ensure that builders keep that risk in mind, a government report said on Thursday.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency said if earthquakes strike in what geologists define as the New Madrid Seismic Zone, they would cause "the highest economic losses due to a natural disaster in the United States."

FEMA predicted a large earthquake would cause "widespread and catastrophic physical damage" across Alabama, Arkansas, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Mississippi, Missouri and Tennessee -- home to some 44 million people.

Tennessee is likely to be hardest hit, according to the study that sought to gauge the impact of a 7.7 magnitude earthquake in order to guide the government's response.

In Tennessee alone, it forecast hundreds of collapsed bridges, tens of thousands of severely damaged buildings and a half a million households without water.

Transportation systems and hospitals would be wrecked, and police and fire departments impaired, the study said.

The zone, named for the town of New Madrid in Missouri's southeast corner, is subject to frequent mild earthquakes.

You will see this event when the USA manipulates the division of Jeruselum to terrorists. God will split this country right up the middle. Stand tall...don’t turn your back on the Jews or Israel...I don’t care what the propaganda says or what you think you are seeing that will bring the armies of the world against Israel.

There was
NO such thing as Palestinians before the 1967 war. Amazing when you
think of it. Who are the Palestinians? They are simply Jordanians and
the terrorist thugs of Islam from other Muslim countries, which the
PA invites in for the great Muslim religious glory of Jew killing. AND Christians....they want you dead too.

Even if you have a well, you’ll need power or a manual way to get water.

Tie a string tightly around a can (so it resembles a long handle. or pop a hole in either side of the can and tie the string through the holes) and lower the can down into the well. That'll bring up enough water to drink.
Make sure you use enough string. Some wells are deep.

About every 10 years or so the New Madrid fault comes up for discussion - and lots of fear-mongering ensues.

You know what - If GOD wants the NM Fault to go - then it will. And you know what - there isn’t didly we can do to stop it.

“I saw a segment on FOX that showed teens training for a quake in California. I missed most of the story, though. I just caught the end of it.”

I missed that segment. Good to see some “teens” showing up to train though. We were lucky up here....plenty of damage but no deaths. People who live in earthquake zones really do need to prepare for the worst of the worst. If our quake (the 7.9 one) had hit a major metropolitan area, it would have been devastating in both deaths and material losses.

Like I said, I missed most of the segment, BUT.... I think they were doing it on school time. There were desks and lockers, anyway.

The problem with some well casings will be that the can won’t have room to tip over and gather water...it’ll just float on the top. Of course one could poke a hole in the bottom of the can...heh heh

I tell ya, if I lived in a city, or town for that matter, I’d make sure I keep a stash of bottled water for that “just in case a catastrophic U.S. quake” were to hit our area.

I forget “that part” more often than I can remember, so you’re in good company here. LOL

This subject peaked my interest so I searched the Internet for information. Here is one of the links I found that addressed this topic. http://curezone.org/forums/fm.asp?i=1240352

I think the best way to survive a “water emergency” would be to keep an emergency supply of water on hand at all times. Drinking water would be the first priority, so if you have enough of that for you and your loved ones (including pets), you have enough.
