How convenient. All patriots hardcore enough to actually sign up for the National Guard will coincidentally be on a different continent when their states decide they're suddenly needed at home.

I would not be surprised if psychological evaluation was used to determine what kind of person a soldier was, and if people of the "wrong" type were assigned to brigades that would be sent on missions to "pacify" various lawless areas in the world -- from which they would never be allowed to return.

- he had already suffered the worst a man could

- he had all the resources he needed.
In other words: forced to act, he had nothing to lose, and had been-there-done-that.

Everyone should do a little checking to see if “voluntary” service is not ALREADY required of high school students

For years conscripted "community service" has been required for all students in High School that are on accelerated programs to prepare them for college.

Now the low achievers will be doing it also.

I haven’t gotten my daughter a SSN - yet. I don’t want to, as it should be HER choice. Apparently my choice is either get her one, or pay an additional $3000/yr in income tax (over 20 years, that’s as much as she’d pay in FICA - which she’ll likely end up paying anyway). Great options: sticking to my principles will cost me $60,000 ... and she’ll probably get a SSN anyway thereafter.

I'm sure they wouldn't jail people, but I imagine they will try to set up some vengeful punishment for non-compliance. You will lose your new "federal" driver's license. And your new federal permit to purchase gas and oil. And your new federal permission to attend college. And your new worker's card entitling you to apply for a job. And your new federal permit to purchase food. And your new federal permit to purchase electricity and heat for your home.

Why not? If he does, IIRC it’s up to Congress to get their act together and “veto” it, which I doubt they’d do.

Would be worth carefully examining the extent to which executive orders can be pushed.

His smile is rather odd, because it looks as though the mouth is flexing but the eyes have no semblance of happiness, almost detached from the mouth itself.

The first time I saw a picture of Rahm Emanuel I had a brief association of his picture and a cadaver. As if one dead, was made to smile by the mortician with his eyes wide open. One other who also grabbed my attention before I knew anything of his political affiliation, was Saul Alinsky.

I had a friend who grew up in the Soviet Union. He told me a funny story about how he was kicked out of the Young Pioneers and had to turn in his red neckerchief in front of his entire school assembly. His crime? He had attempted to set a girl's eyelashes (excessive mascara) on fire with a lighter. He stated that he: "shed a beeetter tear" at the time because not being a Young Pioneers essentially ruined your life. But he added that his Cossack friends, who didn't give a damn about the Young Pioneers: "were laughing their asses off". He spoke very fondly of the free ranging Cossack lifestyle, traveling as a teenager around the countryside for hundreds of miles on horseback, surprisingly without restriction.

BTW he said that civil defense training was part of school and that he could assemble, repair and fire AK47's, low crawl under barb wire, perform first aid etc etc etc at by age 12. He also spoke of experimenting with firearms in which he and his friends demonstrated that a 7.62 round at close range, could penetrate a train rail. I have no idea how they got away with that.

The commie democrats intentions are probably not entirely bad, and could result in arming society even more, like the Swiss and the Israelis. But we know what the road to hell is paved with. They can have my children when they take them from my cold dead hands.
