In a 2006 interview with Ben Smith of the NY Daily News, Rahm Emanuel, who will be Barack Obama's White House chief of staff, laughed at Smith's concerns about how far-reaching a mandatory civil-service plan would be.

Yup.

For what it is worth, our youngest is an English/Spanish double major, and is seeing a young man who is also an English major. They are both conservative, independent thinkers to the core.

IMHO, the “education system” has done an excellent job of turning out young people who may be “book smart”, but have no idea how to think rationally.

They accept without question, whatever they are “taught”, and more frightening still, I believe they will also do as they are told...

Both of ours were raised understanding 2 VERY important realities.
1. That the more outrageous something sounds, the more you need to check out the facts yourself, and make up your own mind from them.
2. That if it does not have to do with the course, or the job, that they do not have to answer every question asked of them, or do everything that they were told to do.

And boy, oh boy, do they have stories about number two... Teachers/professors REALLY do not like students who say, “No, thank you.”, or “That is not any of your business.”.

I am sorry to say - we are in a world of trouble, folks.

The closest thing we have to mob violence right now is the gays in CA and their protests over prop. 8.

But when the moonbat messiah comes after our guns we’ll fight him tooth and nail through the legal system. After that, all bets are off.

52% will be too stupid to understand what is happening. 46% of the remaining 48% will be to busy kissing Obama’s ass and giving him “a chance to govern from the center”.

McCain taught us how that last item works. It's called "reaching across the aisle"...

Allegra, you idoit! It’s obvious you’ve given up, since you’ve been working tirelessly in Iraq for what...3, 4 years now?

It will be five this January. :)

And don’t bogart the spinning object. We all want to get as high as Warlord David.

ROFL! I was looking all over the place for that spinning object, because it sounded kind of fun.

I don't know if I'd want to get quite as high as David is, but a little buzz along those lines could be amusing. HAHAHA

Forcing anyone to do volunteer work is MARXIST. The leftist continue to propagate volunteerism at schools all across Amerika. If it has to be then those of us who are Conservative must develop volunteer plans that put Conservatives values into play. Enough of bagging lunches for illegal immigrants, enough of ladling hash at homeless shelters. Enough of victim-hood. Promote values that the Conservatives believe in that move the victim beyond a meal. How about small theater conventions where influential, motivational speakers get the Conservative mantra explained, then maybe some hash.

I think you are dead on right about that. This reminds me of Clinton’s “gays in the military” moment. First rattle out of the box the libs use what they think is a mandate to shove something particularly vile down the throats of American citizens and it blows up in their faces.

Interesting take on Dachau. When I visited in there 2003 I left seething, I was so angry and disgusted. I cannot even read about the Holocaust anymore, the images, the stories, the cruelty, it is just too much.

Yes, there have been attempts to sanitize the Holocaust, but one can easily find out what went on. The terms Concentration Camp and Extermination Camp are pretty clear. I believe Dachau was a Concentration Camp, focused on political prisoners, dissidents and “enemies” of the Fuhrer (basically anyone they did not like or who did not toe the line). I do not recall any ovens in Dachau, although there was plenty of carnage.

I think that we are interpreting the importance of this issue correctly but not it’s source and their objective.

Please consider the second amendment: from wikipedia
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Second_Amendment_to_the_United_States_Constitution

“The Second Amendment (Amendment II) to the United States Constitution is the part of the United States Bill of Rights that protects the pre-existing individual right to possess and carry weapons (i.e., “keep and bear arms”) in case of confrontation.[1] Codification of the right to keep and bear arms into the Bill of Rights was influenced by a fear that the federal government would disarm the people in order to impose rule through a standing army or select militia,[2] since history had shown taking away the people’s arms and making it an offense for people to keep them was the way tyrants eliminated resistance to suppression of political opponents”

The key here is “select militia” which is exactly what they are discussing. It becomes a constitutional battle and they will have to rewrite or amend the second amendment’s interpretation by executive order. This is where they start to take away OUR guns and make sure that every citizen is armed BY THEM.

It seems to be a baby step for a liberal, but on a big scale it seems to me like what they are trying to do. Am I reaching here? comments????

If this is the case, we NEED strong representation to force this issue to the front and strong leaders to fight for us. Not the middle of the road republicans but true conservatives who will stand up for our rights and freedoms.

” true conservatives who will stand up for our rights and freedoms.”

AMEN—My dear FR friends, yesterday was a bit late to start planning for a better future. That is by finding the best candidates for 2010 & 2012.
We need to stay on course and elect Congressman that love this country, that honors the Flag.

Funny the media didn't run any of that during the campaign much less the debates, yet Reich Emanuel talks about it as if it's a done deal.

This is so far out in left field I can't fathom it. We already have a national guard. We are the world's only superpower. There is no reason for this except some freakish maniacal control and the financial strain on the economy will be devastating.

The only way that happens is if a few million patriots move there, re-create the Republic of Texas, and do it themselves.
