An American journalist was kidnapped by Taliban militants in the Afghan province of Logar, located 60 kilometres south of the capital Kabul. David Rohde, a journalist working for the US daily The New York Times, was abducted along with his driver and interpreter by a Taliban group known as Siraj Haqqani and has been taken to eastern Afghanistan, sources told Adnkronos International (AKI).
War-torn Afghanistan has seen a surge in kidnappings of foreigners by Taliban militants recently. On Monday, Canadian journalist Mellissa Fung was freed in Kabul after being held in captivity for four weeks by militants.
Oh, OK... the Taliban will force the reporter into spreading lies and propaganda about America... um, no... they already do that...
Why did they even BOTHER???
Nothing like a reporter getting a first hand account.
Anyway, prayers for the hostage.
Yes, prayers up for the hostage. If he is one.
But, Hussein won the election! There are no more wars and no more bad people! Didn’t the Taliban read the Times for the past 18 months?
Yes.
I didn’t realize that the New York Times still employs reporters. Probably a misconception on my part, since there’s no actual reporting in that paper - just opinion pieces.
Well, at any rate, no worries since the Taliban will certainly let him go as soon as they realize they’re on the same side...
Fletcher J
He should be immediately released out of professional courtesy.
G-d be with him and his family and friends.
The Times has had some decent war reporters such as John F Burns.
Let them keep him, we don’t want him back.
I know we’re not supposed to negotiate with terrorists, but how much do we have to pay to get them to keep him, plus capture all the other MSM correspondents?
Remember what they did to Danny Pearl.
Obama: “I don’t negotiate with terrorists... I just pal around with them.”
Apparently, even the Taliban stopped reading the NYT.
How much money will we have to pay - for the Taliban to keep him
I’m sure that the Taliban have sawed his head off by now...I’m having a very difficult time developing any sympathy for anyone who works for the NY Times and gets captured in a war zone.
Last words spoken before capture was, “Hey guys, what are you doing? I’m on your side!”
Surprisingly, no one has updated his Wikipedia entry:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/David_Rohde
From July 2002 to December 2004, he was co-chief of the Times ‘s South Asia bureau, based in New Delhi.
While a reporter for The Christian Science Monitor, he won the Pulitzer Prize in 1996 for his coverage of the Srebrenica massacre.
Prayers up for David Rohde and his family.
Jeez, I’m not sure the Taliban really understand who they’ve kidnapped. Once they listen to him for a while, they’ll release him - just to save their own sanity!
But seriously, I hope this guy does not end up like Daniel Pearl and gets a real clear understanding of the kind of people we’re fighting against in Afghanistan.
