A Ramsey County judge on Saturday denied a bid by lawyers representing U.S. Sen. Norm Coleman's campaign to delay the opening of 32 absentee ballots from Minneapolis.
The request touched off a fresh war of words in a Senate race where 221 votes separate Republican Coleman and DFLer Al Franken in unofficial tallies.
The 32 Minneapolis ballots were part of the normal delivery of absentee ballots late in the polling day, according to Election Director Cindy Reichert.
She said they were retained when they couldn't be delivered because some polling places had shut down for the day. She said the ballots were kept sealed until other election duties were completed and were being counted Saturday afternoon, with results to be delivered to the state on Monday.
However, the Coleman campaign contended that the integrity of the ballots "is in serious doubt." Its argument for a temporary restraining order was dismissed on jurisdictional grounds by Kathleen Gearin, chief district court judge in Ramsey County.

Thanks for posting the article.
But, for saving time, next time, either don’t give us everything but the last paragraph and call it an excerpt (give us less if you want it to be an “excerpt”), or include the last paragraph and don’t call it an excerpt (don’t waste our time to go get it).
Thank you for your reply. However, I dont think to waste too much time of yours by discretionally excerpting a short article. Second, I was obliged to excerpt it for editorial reasons (Star Tribune).
Security of Ballot boxes is pathetic in this country, and we know from past CONVICTIONS that democrats aren't above tampering with them. Add Obama's Acorn fraud squad to the picture, and we can be reasonably certain that they have special "absentee" ballot boxes all prepared and ready to be switched with the original ones prepared for every single state in case of a close vote.
only for military and republicans
Isn’t Coleman a RINO?
A little bit, but it doesn’t matter. I don’t want Franken to get in. Also, Norm did an outstanding job in uncovering the oil for food scandal.
“But after being passed up for v.p., he was reportedly miffed.”
That really has nothing to do with the Coleman/Franken battle. Unless you’re saying Pawlenty is miffed at the whole Republican party and not just McCain, which would mean McCain’s snub sent him into some sort of deep depression, which I find hard to believe.
“Isnt Coleman a RINO?”
Absolutely. He also used to be a Clinton Democrat. But he’s better than Wellstone/Mondale/Franken.
WTH...He is NOT Franken !!
I understand that......but all these FReepers keep saying oh well he was a RINO...glad to have gotten rid of him. That made little sense to me...
