WELLINGTON, New Zealand (AP) New Zealand entered a new era of conservative rule Sunday, with incoming Prime Minister John Key promising to be a moderate amid fears some of the country's policies on global warming and indigenous people could be rolled back.
Voters on Saturday elected the wealthy former currency market trader to lead them through a recession worsening because of the global financial meltdown, handing long-serving Prime Minister Helen Clark and her central-left Labour Party a crushing defeat.
Key said Sunday he hoped his National Party and coalition partners would be sworn into government within about a week so he can attend the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation summit of Pacific Rim leaders in Peru on Nov. 22-23. The financial crisis will top the summit agenda.

Smart guy Key, co-opted Obama's hope and change message to finally rid New Zealand of it's leftist PM.
So a little bit of sanity hits NZ and Canada whist Australia and the US go socialist.
Hopefully UK Labour will be departing from power some time next year.

The only problem with Today’s Tories is that they’re more to the Left on many issues than Tony Blair was when he was PM....sorta like Richard Nixon Republicans when it comes to the economy.

Take the last train to Clarksville,
Now I must hang up the phone.
I can’t hear you in this noisy
Railroad station all alone.
I’m feelin’ low. Oh, no, no, no!
Oh, no, no, no!
And I don’t know if I’m ever coming home.

Tax lovers? Arguably, though Swedes really take that title. But “the most vicious America hater?” Please get a clue.

I definitely didn’t find them to be America haters, but then, that was back in 1980. They were very nice people. Of course, I mostly hung out with trout fishermen.

New Zealand is absolutely beautiful. Remember, “The Lord of the Rings” was mostly filmed there. It has an otherworldly look about it and it's supposedly very clean; sort of the last unsettled frontier on Earth. My husband is from Australia and he says that there should be plenty of room for anyone seeking political asylum since so many New Zealanders have moved to Australia to bludge off of the Aussie government. When he told me yesterday that they had elected a conservative PM I was shocked because “kiwis” have always been so far left. They don't even allow any nuclear U.S. Navy ships or subs into their ports. I wonder if this policy is going to change now....I'm all for moving there if I can just convince him!

Very good to read.
What would keep the Chicoms from simply walking in and taking over that beautiful country? (should they become emboldened after their coming move into Taiwan?)

Ironic, isn’t it? The most left-handed member of the Anglosphere moves rightward, just at the time that the USA embarks upon its slow Obamesque self-immolation....
