The Republican vice presidential candidate attracted criticism for accusing Mr Obama of "palling around with terrorists", citing his association with the sixties radical William Ayers.
The attacks provoked a near lynch mob atmosphere at her rallies, with supporters yelling "terrorist" and "kill him" until the McCain campaign ordered her to tone down the rhetoric.
But it has now emerged that her demagogic tone may have unintentionally encouraged white supremacists to go even further.
The Secret Service warned the Obama family in mid October that they had seen a dramatic increase in the number of threats against the Democratic candidate, coinciding with Mrs Palin's attacks.
Michelle Obama, the future First Lady, was so upset that she turned to her friend and campaign adviser Valerie Jarrett and said: "Why would they try to make people hate us?"
The revelations, contained in a Newsweek history of the campaign, are likely to further damage Mrs Palin's credentials as a future presidential candidate. She is already a frontrunner, with Louisiana Governor Bobby Jindal, to take on Mr Obama in four years time.
Details of the spike in threats to Mr Obama come as a report last week by security and intelligence analysts Stratfor, warned that he is a high risk target for racist gunmen. It concluded: "Two plots to assassinate Obama were broken up during the campaign season, and several more remain under investigation. We would expect federal authorities to uncover many more plots to attack the president that have been hatched by white supremacist ideologues."
Irate John McCain aides, who blame Mrs Palin for losing the election, claim Mrs Palin took it upon herself to question Mr Obama's patriotism, before the line of attack had been cleared by Mr McCain.

Yes, let’s ground all 747s, they’re a real hazzard (second only to the 737 for safety record).
The L/MSM will be careful to mention this stuff in 2012 if she where to run again. Mark my word on it.
You’re welcome! Great post.
I agree about our press, but I find it troubling that the British press seems to be the first to air these anti-Palin articles. I really do believe that they are jealous of our country and are trying to bring us down to their level, which gets lower every day.
Be advised Crim is short on something, either reading comprehension or honesty.
In post 294 I provided the link he posted to you, Albion, and the article is the source for the information he posted to you, kcvl. But I also provided this one...
...which specifically says that the SS found “tell him” or “tell them” on the tape, not “kill him.” Yet he’s left it out of his reponses to both of you.
Crim, if you believe the SS is lying or doesn’t know what they heard and you heard it better than them, then that’s just great. But say so instead of presenting the idea that the SS found “kill him” but ignored it because Ayers is not a presidential candidate. That’s decidedly not the case.
the telegraph is more to the right I believe but they had this left hack
now the guardian and the BBC are left without a doubt, tabloids like the daily mirror is just plain dumb left idiots
I know first hand believe me
the media here and everywhere need to be help accountable
the republicans need to attack or at least name names , , speak the truth this is what the American people want and like/respect
as for them being jealous, well I know about this first hand as I hailed from there
yes many are jealous mostly left wingers but most of the public do love America
lets says if America said right one million green cards to all hard workers and a written statement saying you will never leach of the Govt
then in less than a day you would have them all wanting to be here
England is a mess due to the left wing Govt and the left wing media
I know of no one who wants to stay there anymore, emigration is at record levels and they are moving out to Australia, New Zealand, Canada
course now obama is here the immigration we will get is mostly from Kenya then the rest of Africa and then from Arab countries
But then if facts mattered, it wouldn't be a conspiracy theory. Try talking to someone who believes the moon landings were faked and you'll see what I mean.
OK now...you made an accusation against me, and in post 296 I called you out. Where's the evidence? Or are you too much of a wuss to back your words up?
Stuff it puppet.
Thank you for the ping Albion. We love Sarah and I hope we find some way to keep her prominently in view.
The devil will protect his messiah.
Hmmmm ..?? I heard the FBI investigated the “so-called” statements of “terrorist” and “kill him” AS NOT HAVING OCCURRED.
In other words, somebody on the LEFT - made this stuff up - but it’s not true. Those statements were never made at McCain or Palin rallies.
It’s just more of the left taking advantage of the stupid anonymous GOP’ers who felt compelled to destroy Sarah.
What really bothers me .. McCAIN HAS BEEN SILENT and so has Cindy .. and that only serves ti reconfirm my dislike of them both.
When I read this, I laughed until I cried....those Brits...what comedians they are!
The WSJ small biz reporter Kelly whatsherface raised all the discredited stuff on the plumber over again, claimed he might not be a plumber, and could have been a plant at the "rally." Of course, this wasn't a rally and Obama came to his neighborhod not the other way around but what do reporters care about getting their facts straight?
We've got a lot of research to do on people and more before two years' time to try to get a hold on congress. If they can keep us accusing one another, and snip at anyone who shows potential leadership abilities, then we won't get a chance to get a lock on the left's six.
This effort is too broad to just be disgruntled campaign workers.
I it is very revealing when the leftists attack "regular people" even when the election's over and the libs should feel safe. Very revealing indeed.

Secret Service Discounts Any Threat In Kill Him Shout

A caller to the Tribune has confirmed hearing a shout of Kill him from a crowd member at a Sarah Palin rally in Clearwater on Monday, but the U.S. Secret Service says it has not found any indication that a threat toward Barack Obama was intended.
After a Tampa Tribune story on the incident in Fridays paper, several attendees from the rally called the Tribune to describe what they knew about it.
One woman who was standing near the traveling press gallery, the location of the reporter who wrote about the incident, said she heard the shout of Kill him from a man close to her, but that it appeared to refer to William Ayers, not Obama.
At the time of the incident, Palin was criticizing Obama for his relationship with Ayers, a former anti-Vietnam War radical whos now a neighbor and political supporter of Obama.
The caller who confirmed the shout left a name but no phone number in two voice-mail messages to the Tribune, and couldnt be located for further comment.
Two other callers, who said they were standing in a part of the crowd away from the apparent location of the incident, said they heard a man near them shout, Tell em, which could have been mistaken for Kill him, at the time of the incident.
The shout isnt audible on television recordings of the event, which use a sound system connected to the speakers microphone and pick up little of the crowd sound. The local press gallery was located some distance away from the traveling press and the apparent site of the incident.
Reporter Dana Milbank of The Washington Post, who was in the traveling press gallery, reported the incident in a story Oct. 7. In interviews following his story, he said the shout could have been a reference to Ayers, not Obama.
In his story, Milbank also said crowd members near his location taunted reporters as they arrived, hurled obscenities at a camera crew, and that one person shouted a racial epithet, Sit down, boy, at a black broadcast crew member.
The rally attendee near Milbanks location said in her voice-mail messages that there were back-and-forth comments between the crowd and the reporters, but denied that obscenities or the word boy were used.
maybe I dont hear so good eh?
maybe I cant read?
maybe I dont remember things well?
maybe it’s time for the eye test...
How many fingers am I holding up?
That’s strange. None of these rules have been in place for George Bush.
Everyone who has college age children who are conservative, please encourage them to go to journalism schools. Even if they have to "pretend" to be liberal until they get their degree and a job or two before "coming out of the conservative closet". It is the only way we will ever take back the media. The other way is problamatic; become Bill Gates and buy the media.
Having a little trouble convincing others today, are we? Hmmmmm.... tsk, tsk.
I would give your post a LOL except what you say is true and isn't a funny situation. We can give the media much of the credit for the dumbing down of America. Sad, especially when we had an example in Britain that most of us dont't want to follow.
