Finding our new Ronald Reagan from the grassroots up
The Collins Report ^ | Nov. 5, 2008 | Kevin “Coach” Collins

Posted on 11/05/2008 5:25:34 AM PST by jmaroneps37

The election is now history. America has rejected conservatism, and we have to live with the results. Our hearts are broken but now our work is cut out for us.

Let’s not pretend to see many bright spots in these results because there are none save for the opportunity to earnestly seek out a new conservative leader.

We’re at a crossroads: we can retreat feeling sorry for ourselves or search for a new Ronald Reagan-like conservative giant.

We must stand up for America and fight though we don’t much feel like fighting. We’ll have to watch people who don’t understand how America was built or how our nation works, dance, cheer and even gloat.

We conservatives know none of that matters. We can see over the horizon. We don’t have time to feel sorry for ourselves, because we have to win back America’s hearts and minds.

Genuine conservatives know we had America ripped from our hands; we didn’t meekly hand it over. Now we have to take it back.

To do this, we have to find the new Ronald Reagan. Rebuilding a new Reagan-like conservative movement from the grassroots up is job one. We have to meet and plan in new “meeting places” for exchanging the ideas.

The Collinsreport.net will do our part.

We will soon be launching a new site to serve as a clearinghouse for our grassroots search for the new Ronald Reagan. The new site won’t be afraid to be conservative.

The names and titles of those who pretend to be conservatives will be used. We’ll praise real conservatives and spotlight fakes.

We will owe nothing to anyone and always call things as we see them. Watch for the launching of this new site.

It will be here soon. Together, we will find America’s new Ronald Reagan.

This is spot on.

Look at our bench...without Sarah Palin - it’s EMPTY!

Don’t even start about the proven-unelectable Fred Thompson, Romney or some upstart like Tim Pawlenty or Bobby Jindal.

Huckabee? Ron Paul? There’s a reason Sarah Palin packs more people into one appearance than they did in their whole campaigns.

Thank God we have a strong Conservative WOMAN who believes in something! As Ann Coulter said in a radio interview a bit ago - we should have learned that “Strong Conservative Republicans WIN, moderate Republican RINOs LOSE”.

Let’s learn the lesson and move on (so to speak) - we now see how dumb it is to rely on public financing. Borrow what works - PhDs will be written on the Obama grassroots political organization and use of the internet. The template is there, we just need to use it.

And now, at last, we have a candidate who has the Right Stuff. Just as when she lost the election as Lt. Gov. in Alaska, “she was destined for greater things”.

The last thing we needed this year was a 72 year old guy, whose record wasn’t Conservative, who had announced policies that his own side detested, and was basically saying, I’ve paid my dues, it’s my turn.

This wasn’t Bush’s third term. This was Bob Dole’s second election. I was somewhat reluctant to adopt that view when someone else raised the thought the other day, but at this point I’m not so sure. They may have been more accurate than I first thought.

We did not just have someone make a great presentation of Conservatism over a matter of months, that people rejected.

A person who clearly defines what Conservatism is, can sell it.

Look, we’re sending out people who are not good salesmen to sell something. Obama sold something. We just pretended to.

Sarah is good, but I got a better idea: Bobby Jindal and David Petraeus.

We might want to try the *States’ Rights* approach. There are 50 governorships - enough for a respectable farm team.

just sayin’

You’re right, we need to nominate non-charismatic one trick congressmen. Look, I love those guys but they aren’t very good at communicating their ideas. They couldn’t get 2% of the primary vote...they’re going to get some old bag from Ohio to vote for them over the smooth talking Barry?
Yep same tired old rant that you people use in every primary to get great successes like McQueeg the nomination.

I won't call you a liar because I don't know that but you are seriously uninformed if you think Hunter is a one trick pony. Hell only the uninformed really believe Tancredo is a one trick pony. A real look at their records will show otherwise.

No problem at all Palmer. I’ve seen the Republican party pull this same routine moving farther and farther left due to reading the election results wrong.

That’s my take on it. I’d like to see that stop.

Take care.

Sarah supports amnesty, which would be the death of Conservatism (even now we are seeing the results of amnesty from the 1980s).

Sarah was also part of a ticket that was utterly humiliated. Name the last time a VP candidate from a losing ticket went on to get the nomination and then win four years later. You would have to go really far back, and the GOP as a whole will not support her. Fox News and some of McCain's campaign advisers blaming the loss on her was only the beginning.

We need a fresh start.

I would support Sarah taking over Ted Stevens' Senate position, but only if she renounces her support for amnesty. I don't see that happening - she's never been in a position where she's seen the impact that illegal immigration can have on a large state.

She never supported amnesty personally. she was just a part of the McCain ticket.

The America that elected Ronald Regan is NOT gone. What we have lacked is a truly conservative candidate with Ronald Regan's ability to inspire. Obama was elected based on his charisma alone because his message was empty, his accomplishments were minimal and his associations were shady...yet he wrapped all of it up in pretty paper and a bow and half of America didn't even look inside to smell the BS. Conservatism needs a huge shot in the arm from a candidate who can inspire the masses to believe in the fundamentals that this country was founded on...just gotta “sell” it as beautifully as Ronald Regan did!

Funny thing, all of our Republicans got re-elected last night in our county, here in Ohio. Meanwhile I am told the voters went for Obama! So what is going on here? McCain was never anyone’s first choice, he won in NH and became our candidate, probably because we never really had a great candidate.
As for Sarah, she is wonderful, but I don’t think she is ready to lead. Several of my well educated Rep women friends were turned off by her, as was my daughter who voted for McCain. Her poll numbers fell terribly after the press went after her, but we know she did inspire the base.
There are others out there and perhaps they will come forward in the next few years. We re-elected Bob Latta in our district, son of Del Latta, a great friend to Reagan. Bob voted against the bail out and is a good conservative. I am sure there are others like him - we just need to start watching for the right person. The next man to occupy our White House is scary indeed, but we need to think about who can win for us in 2012.

She never supported amnesty personally. she was just a part of the McCain ticket.

She gave an interview with Univision (one of the largest Spanish-language stations) where she said McCain's amnesty policy makes a lot of sense.

Unless you are saying she was just playing politics and saying whatever she needed to say to get Hispanics to support her and McCain, in which case I really don't want her around. I'd rather have somebody with a backbone who doesn't cover up their conservative beliefs based on whoever they happen to be talking to.

I agree. The people who swing these elections are really drive-by voters. They base their decisions on headlines. Democrats have gained the upper hand in salesmanship and wordy inspirational speeches. We’ve got to get that back.

Are you saying it's okay to support amnesty in order to win?

>>Conservatism was not rejected.<<

You got that right.

Obama even used "conservative"-sounding (but misleading) claims like:

He would "lower taxes"

He would invade Pakistan to get Osama, but most voters did not notice that BO promised to stop weapons research, (thanks to the MSM and McCain, as well as the voters' own ignorance).

He said he would keep health care "private."

He would cut spending "on programs that don't work" even though the only ones he has found are military.
