Russia Warns of New Missile Deployment (After the US Election)
The New York Times ^ | 2008-11-05 | Ellen Barry and Sophia Kishkovsky

MOSCOW — In a wide-ranging attack on the United States as it elected a new president, the Russian leader Dmitri Medvedev warned on Wednesday that Moscow might deploy short-range missiles in the Baltic enclave of Kaliningrad to counter a perceived threat from a proposed American missile defense shield in eastern Europe.

His remarks, in his first state of the nation address since assuming the presidency in May, coincided with the election of Barack Obama and offered a chill glimpse into the potential issues and tensions confronting the new American leader when he takes office in January.

Mr. Medvedev did not specifically congratulate Mr. Obama on his victory, saying only that he hoped that “our partners _ the new U.S. administration _ will make a choice in favor of full-fledged relationship with Russia.”

At the same time, however, he spoke of a “new configuration for the military forces of our country” that would include abandoning plans to dismantle some missile regiments.

I guess we can settle it with who actually fires a shot being declared the winner - “shot” to include bullet, missile, bomb or invasion. Do you remember who had Russia?

Using “winner” very loosely here.

Refresh my memory. Biden did say months, not hours, didn’t he? LMAO

Obambi to the rescue, daaaaa da da daaaaa!

Let’s see how his verbal cadence and tones placate the world leaders who plan on playing him like a fiddle.

Maestro please...

I was expecting Russian tanks in Serbia last summer - I couldn’t understand why the logistics were taking so long. I guess they were waiting on the US election, along with the rest of the world. The ground may be soft enough there now to delay the invasion till next spring, which would make my latest prediction of Zero’s meltdown in late April dead-on.

“I think what Khruschev said was, “We will Barry you.” BTW, I had Russia in the pool, but I didn’t expect it this soon”

Well, what did you expect, he was banging that danged shoe and we were depending on an interpreter. I remember when the Soviet Union fell, some people were warning that it was a feint.

At least they didn't waste any time to try to test the US president-elect. Here we go!

Yes, they didn't waste any time challenging the callow Kenyan Clown.

My guess is that he will fumble this one: first, he'll ignore it, and the Russians will make even louder noises and more threatening moves. Then the Kenyan Clown will reassure the Russians that our missile defense program will be dismantled as quickly as possible. Finally, the Russians will start a new adventure of surprising boldness.

Time will tell, in fact a very short period of time. You will be very dissapointed. Obama will be unlike anything you could imagine, I stand by the Constitution and he does not. I swore an oath to defend it against enemies both foriegn and domestic and I still mean every word.

I had Iran in the pool (as a flight of military helos just flew overhead, I may still win)

Excellent choice. That was my inclination as well.

I would have been happy with Russian tanks in Serbia because they would have been used to crush the Islamic expansionism in Europe through Kosovo. Bush admin. supported that expansionism.

The United Nations? WTF good will that do? This is the big problem all of you Obama supporters have NEVER figured out. The United Nations exists to block anything the USA attempts to do to expand democracy or promote peace. You people have really bought into this global village bit haven’t you? I got a news flash for ya. It’s all just a bunch of blather and hot air. Nobody really beleives that except the poor nations who want something from the developed world. Thats it. I can just see the Russians reacting to a UN resolution condemning their deployment of short range missiles in the Baltic. Can you guess what the Russians will say? I can, they’ll say so what? And they will deploy the missiles. The UN is a toothless tiger and always has been. The US Military has been the only real muscle behind any of it’s efforts. Yeah, I tell ya, you Obama people really screwed this country but good this time. Socialism, a gutted useless military, entitlement programs out the wazoo along with the draconian taxes to fund them, socialized medicine, socialized everything. Maybe you all should have asked the Cubans how that socialism thing worked out for them. You people worship Obama, you are Obamatrons and will jump anytime he says. I can say this though, it will be fun to watch his inexperience and ineptitude for this job play out on the world stage. While all you Obamatrons are busy licking his boots, I’ll be hiding my income and assets, and I’ll be preparing to move the Caymans where I can watch these young voters get a hard lesson about the consequences of this short sighted, knee jerk reaction choice for president. I tell ya, I’ve never had less faith in the American people than I do right now. Your a bunch of fat, stupid, lazy consumers who don’t know the meaning of the word sacrifice, honor, integrity or courage.

No, can’t be shot cause I would win right off. 20 russian artillery rockets fired into Israel today.

Got to be a real serious thing, a few thousand Americans die like Jerusalem nuked or a major terror attack on US soil or military force outside of the existing war zones.

That is laughable. This country is not going to be the same after just 4 yrs. It was now or never. We are in for mock ‘elections’ where Demonrats will have it no matter how bad they do. They can take their pride in taking America down.

Your absolutely right. Obama promised the world on a platter and liberals, minorities and young voters swallowed it hook, line and sinker! Now, the hard lesson begins in consequences for one’s choices. Socialism is on the march! Everyone, get your health cards out, get out your food ration coupons, your fuel allocation stamps, and double your taxes too. The world is happy because the USA is weaker today. Obamatrons rejoice, he will soon begin gutting the military so fat, stupid lazy Americans can continue that exact lifestyle.

There going to attack their satellites not deploy missiles. That is counter productive. With Obama, they'll be able to pick off small nations at will.

“Iraq will fall into the hands of the Persians...”

Arabs, not Persians. Iran was a monarchy before Carter muddled it over to the islamists.

what islamic expansionism in Europe? Do you really think the muslims of Europe are the same as those in the middle and far east, or even the caucuses? The Russians would've further polarized that area, so i do not agree with you. Only the US, not aggressive Russia, nor spineless EU, could've stopped the genocide there and ensure that Wahabbi version of Islam stayed out of Europe. You don't see the muslim Bosniacs declaring Jihad on the West do you? It's precisely because they owe their survival to the US. Same with the Kosovars.
